[8:55] CDB Barkley: While we wait, how about if everyone says hello and tell us where they are from?

[8:56] bucky Barkley: ah.. greast idea!

[8:56] CDB Barkley: And name your favorite band

[8:56] CDB Barkley: or singer

[8:56] Viktorian Grut: Hello....I'm from Kent State University

[8:57] Thursday Xu: Hi - I am from Iowa State University -- favorite band (today) David Bowie

[8:57] bucky Barkley: heya Corwin!

[8:57] CDB Barkley: I'm with NMC, live in Strawberry Arizona, and I am a die hard Who fan

[8:57] Katherine1 Galli: hi

[8:57] bucky Barkley: cool

[8:58] bucky Barkley: well.. I am going to go ahead and start..

[8:58] Loretta Lobo: I'm in Austin at community college

[8:58] CDB Barkley: hang on

[8:58] bucky Barkley: oh go on :)

[8:58] CDB Barkley: let me do an intro

[8:58] CDB Barkley: but lets give time for folks to intro themselves

[8:58] CDB Barkley: tell us where you are and your favorite band/singer

[8:58] Alice Burgess: University of Kentucky. Favorite is probably Talking Heads

[8:58] MLani Montgomery: I'm on the west coast, and I'd have to say The Beatles.

[8:59] Loretta Lobo: robin trower

[8:59] Logan5 Obscure: California State University, Chico. I'm a DJ so have no one favorite band.

[8:59] Krad Proto: I'm from virginia tech. New Trolls .... Pink Floyd, etc

[8:59] CDB Barkley: thats cool

[9:00] CDB Barkley: Welcome everyone to the NMC Campus Teachers Buzz

[9:00] Chispa Cela: I'm from Austin Community College (Texas), fave band (right now) is Cafe Tacuba

[9:00] CDB Barkley: If you are new, we meet every 2 weeks in various locations to talk about or explore ways SL used for education, etc

[9:00] CDB Barkley: Just so you know, we do save the chat history for our web site

[9:00] CDB Barkley: So if you have secrets... keep 'em unchatted

[9:01] CDB Barkley: With that, we are excited to be here at the Museum of Music

[9:01] Maxito Ricardo: Hi

[9:01] CDB Barkley: I met Bucky Barkley (cousin?) a few weeks ago when we were working to set up his screens for the Library conference at NMC

[9:02] CDB Barkley: He has crafted some amazing tools used here for viewing video and web content

[9:02] CDB Barkley: and Bucky was gracious enough to host a demo

[9:02] CDB Barkley: and beside that, as a 1960s music freak, I love the place he was built here

[9:02] CDB Barkley: as a current tribute to the music of the British INvasion

[9:03] CDB Barkley: So lets welcome bucky, who maybe will tell us a bit about himself and this project and ten we get to see some cool tools

[9:03] CDB Barkley: Take it away, Bucky

[9:03] bucky Barkley: thanks vry much for the intro CBD!!!

[9:03] bucky Barkley: Hi - I am Bucky Barkley - a RL web develope

[9:03] bucky Barkley: and my co-curator .. who is not here.. is Abbey Zenith

[9:03] bucky Barkley: she and I have had fun getting the MuMu

[9:04] bucky Barkley: together (Museum of Music)

[9:04] bucky Barkley: am ere to talk about 3 specific tools that we use in library, educational, and museum settings but which are applicable in a wide variety of projects. They are WebMon, SimpleSlider/Slider, and VideoPoster/VidMon.

[9:04] bucky Barkley: I want ti start by directing attention to the lobby

[9:04] bucky Barkley: (camera is fine..)

[9:04] bucky Barkley: grab a show program for reading later ;)

[9:05] bucky Barkley: on the desk you will see a webmon..

[9:05] Bebop And Beyond Poster: Welcome to the Museum Of Music -- Bebop Exhibit on 1st Floor -- Enjoy!

[9:05] bucky Barkley: web monitor..

[9:05] bucky Barkley: WebMon 2.5 ..

[9:05] bucky Barkley: WebMon (formerly LibMon) launches web addresses in an external browser.

[9:05] bucky Barkley: If you want to see the documentation for WebMon - go to:

[9:05] bucky Barkley: http://buckybarkley.wordpress.com/webmon-25-documentation/

[9:05] bucky Barkley: It features a menu that makes it easy to browse or search 30-40 addresses .

[9:05] bucky Barkley: there is one to my right

[9:05] bucky Barkley: on the tv

[9:06] bucky Barkley: Most people use WebMon to gather related web links for a given topic...

[9:06] bucky Barkley: You can supplement the links with a folder full of notecards that can be copied to a user's inventory.

[9:06] bucky Barkley: WebMon is easy to fit into different environments:

[9:06] bucky Barkley: (you will note the difference between the ones on desk and tv.. and that is just the tip of

[9:06] bucky Barkley: iceberg :)

[9:06] bucky Barkley: The menu labels can be changed for any language or custom scene ..

[9:06] bucky Barkley: The hovertext above the screen is optional, and can be used to give the user some additional information..

[9:07] bucky Barkley: The background screen can be set from a texture in inventory

[9:07] bucky Barkley: ok.. so that is one object.. let me back up

[9:07] bucky Barkley: and give a little context and

[9:07] bucky Barkley: say a word about this show..

[9:07] bucky Barkley: as you may know.. british invasion is

[9:07] bucky Barkley: '64-67.

[9:07] bucky Barkley: this is an amaeican house of

[9:07] bucky Barkley: the 60's

[9:08] bucky Barkley: with the british wall acorss the way...

[9:08] bucky Barkley: so.. the idea was to make something very browseable

[9:08] bucky Barkley: but.. to reward soem exploration..

[9:08] bucky Barkley: the webmon at the desk is not in itself that much to

[9:08] bucky Barkley: browse :) .. but..

[9:09] bucky Barkley: does lesd to some additional web resources with a couple of clicks..

[9:09] bucky Barkley: now.. looking at the lobby

[9:09] bucky Barkley: we have a bunch of objects.. the Slider

[9:09] CDB Barkley: Have you started looked at the new page on a prim features?

[9:09] bucky Barkley: prm ? web? yes.. but wont mention that till later :)

[9:10] Object owned by Abbey Zenith gave you 'Kinks 66' ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/Infotainment%20Island/69/230/44 ).

[9:10] bucky Barkley: so .. in the liobby.. note that the album covers are clickable...

[9:10] bucky Barkley: this is more than just a picture frame..

[9:10] bucky Barkley: Slider 3.0 - show textures..

[9:10] bucky Barkley: also in this show..

[9:10] bucky Barkley: SimpleSlider - automatically scroll through a set of textures - give out a single notecard when clicked ...

[9:10] LoriVonne Lustre: very cool

[9:11] bucky Barkley: let me take you to this wall

[9:11] bucky Barkley: across the way

[9:11] bucky Barkley: we have 8 main bands

[9:11] bucky Barkley: each has a single notecard

[9:11] bucky Barkley: which is given out from

[9:11] bucky Barkley: the simpleslider ojects

[9:11] bucky Barkley: I note that Abbey is an excellend researcher

[9:11] bucky Barkley: and did a lot of work getting the variuous notecards together

[9:12] bucky Barkley: so .. for every band.. we arescrolling

[9:12] bucky Barkley: through some pics..

[9:12] bucky Barkley: note the resizing..

[9:12] bucky Barkley: and as I said.. each has a notecard...

[9:12] CDB Barkley: NIce, so every texture has a different URL associated with it

[9:12] bucky Barkley: SimpleSlider - automatically scroll through a set of textures - give out a single notecard when clicked ... .. this is good for a simple overview of a topic.. a quick passive browse..

[9:12] bucky Barkley: ah. the SLider does ytes...

[9:12] bucky Barkley: .. and SS can handle dynamic resizing and other attributes for each texture ..

[9:13] bucky Barkley: the two at the

[9:13] bucky Barkley: end

[9:13] bucky Barkley: are slider...

[9:13] bucky Barkley: so the interface is togggled

[9:13] bucky Barkley: by clicking on the pic

[9:13] bucky Barkley: Slider - has an interface for previous / next slides, and can give out multiple items per texture..

[9:13] bucky Barkley: .. what does that mean?

[9:14] bucky Barkley: .. each texture can have its own size/aspect ratio, its own background..

[9:14] bucky Barkley: .. each texture can have associated with it some items to give to the user:

[9:14] bucky Barkley: .. a web address, notecard, LM, a texture, and an object

[9:14] CDB Barkley: excellent

[9:14] bucky Barkley: and.. I can demo in a few days...

[9:14] bucky Barkley: it is possible to have mutiple remote displays!

[9:14] bucky Barkley: so that for every image here...

[9:15] bucky Barkley: you can echo anywhere in

[9:15] bucky Barkley: a sin...

[9:15] bucky Barkley: sim....

[9:15] bucky Barkley: typos...

[9:15] bucky Barkley: so.. easy to make

[9:15] bucky Barkley: a presentation more apparent for a large group

[9:15] bucky Barkley: alrighty.. any questions so far?

[9:15] CDB Barkley: Can you explain that last bit again?

[9:15] bucky Barkley: oh . slider remote..

[9:16] CDB Barkley: about mutliple displays?

[9:16] bucky Barkley: I will show that in a few days.. or at my store sooner.. it is basically

[9:16] bucky Barkley: like a mirrored

[9:16] bucky Barkley: display

[9:16] bucky Barkley: in other words.. we see these here.. someone can control the prev next..

[9:17] bucky Barkley: and.. it updates a screen elsewhere in the

[9:17] CDB Barkley: So I could control the display on multiple screens- nice

[9:17] bucky Barkley: sim..

[9:17] bucky Barkley: yep.. as in presentations

[9:17] CDB Barkley: Ahhh!

[9:17] bucky Barkley: I also want to uncouple.. you have the main screen

[9:17] bucky Barkley: in the center.. supplement each side

[9:17] bucky Barkley: slide...

[9:17] bucky Barkley: off to the sides...

[9:18] bucky Barkley: soooooooo... interactivity....

[9:18] bucky Barkley: we have ben mostly browsing this show

[9:18] bucky Barkley: you see webmon...

[9:18] bucky Barkley: and simpleslider.. for giving out notes..

[9:18] bucky Barkley: slider can hanbd out lms.. go to the web

[9:18] bucky Barkley: and you see the boys and girls rooms...

[9:19] bucky Barkley: welll.. we did not want to make people

[9:19] bucky Barkley: go out to youtube

[9:19] bucky Barkley: to make this immersive!!!

[9:19] bucky Barkley: so..

[9:19] bucky Barkley: video..

[9:19] bucky Barkley: there are video screens all over the place here...

[9:19] bucky Barkley: 100% alpha tetxures...

[9:19] bucky Barkley: VidMon - menu.. multiple videos to choose from

[9:19] bucky Barkley: see the band names?

[9:19] bucky Barkley: the union jacks?

[9:20] bucky Barkley: ok...

[9:20] bucky Barkley: everyone..

[9:20] CDB Barkley: yes

[9:20] bucky Barkley: pick a n band

[9:20] bucky Barkley: pick a band and you wil get

[9:20] bucky Barkley: a menu..

[9:20] bucky Barkley: such as kinks , animals etc

[9:20] bucky Barkley: you will need to be able to play video for this work...

[9:20] bucky Barkley: What is per-person video?

[9:20] bucky Barkley: * several people watching different things off the same screen, at the same time

[9:21] bucky Barkley: * several screens in a parcel being viewed by different people at the same time.. all watching something different

[9:21] bucky Barkley: In many contexts, this works out well - a museum patron can watch a large screen video without impacting the experience of someone else in the same place

[9:21] bucky Barkley: anyone seeing video?

[9:21] CDB Barkley: waiting for the Kinks

[9:21] bucky Barkley: what are you seeing?

[9:21] Grinn Pidgeon: yes yardbirds ima man

[9:21] Thursday Xu: overundersideways down!

[9:21] MLani Montgomery: I see the sliders, but where are the video screens?

[9:22] bucky Barkley: video screens - > click the union jacks.. theband names

[9:22] CDB Barkley: All Day All Night, the Kinks!

[9:22] bucky Barkley: I am seeing the who!

[9:22] bucky Barkley: see the lobby?

[9:22] bucky Barkley: the boys and girls rooms?

[9:22] bucky Barkley: there are sandwiches of

[9:22] bucky Barkley: screens here

[9:22] bucky Barkley: you will see your video.. others will see theirs!

[9:23] bucky Barkley: what elese are poeple seeing right now?

[9:23] MLani Montgomery: I can't see anything.

[9:23] Bill Friis: I am lost. No idea where to look

[9:23] Viktorian Grut: Herman's Hermits

[9:23] Emby Semaphore: looks good to me

[9:23] Scarlett Sismondi: i see the dave clark 5 video

[9:23] Viktorian Grut: Into something good!

[9:23] Zebulon Zymurgy: nice, I've got the DC 5

[9:23] bucky Barkley: Bill - try the band names

[9:23] bucky Barkley: under the pics

[9:23] Bill Friis: That much I got.

[9:23] Viktorian Grut: This is great!

[9:23] bucky Barkley: the union jack flag

[9:23] MLani Montgomery: So you select the band from beneath the slider, but view it elsewhere on another wall?

[9:24] Grinn Pidgeon: Troggs

[9:24] bucky Barkley: you pick a band

[9:24] Bill Friis: Ah, this time I got somethig.

[9:24] Emby Semaphore: Pete Townshend is God

[9:24] bucky Barkley: pick a movie from the menu by clickin on

[9:24] Scarlett Sismondi: now i hear two things at one time

[9:24] CDB Barkley: Agree Emby!

[9:24] Krad Proto: It's nice.... :-)

[9:24] bucky Barkley: a numberedbutton

[9:24] bucky Barkley: that goes with the title

[9:24] Bill Friis: How do you get different videos to different people?

[9:24] bucky Barkley: http://buckybarkley.wordpress.com/videoposter-10-documentation/

[9:24] bucky Barkley: gives some more info

[9:24] bucky Barkley: and...

[9:24] bucky Barkley: sec..

[9:24] bucky Barkley: http://buckybarkley.wordpress.com/vidmon-3x-documentation/

[9:25] Krad Proto: there's some delay in playing videos.....

[9:25] bucky Barkley: is for these here.. this is something I released as a product yesterday..

[9:25] LoriVonne Lustre: singing along with Lulu -- to sir with love!

[9:25] bucky Barkley: yes. the delay is

[9:25] Krad Proto: but the sound quality, etc. good

[9:25] bucky Barkley: quicktime loading the video..

[9:25] Alphabunny Jewell: Íthis is awesome!

[9:25] bucky Barkley: depends on the video

[9:25] bucky Barkley: so..

[9:25] bucky Barkley: VidMon allows a user to choose from among many videos, and has a menu much like that of WebMon

[9:25] Emby Semaphore: the frame rate is little low - maybe 5-10 fps but the audio is excellent

[9:26] bucky Barkley: note that...

[9:26] bucky Barkley: I am using video from youtube which has been

[9:26] bucky Barkley: converetd to quicktime

[9:26] bucky Barkley: and other factors.. your connection speed etc

[9:26] CDB Barkley: (we wont tell anyone)

[9:26] bucky Barkley: oh it;'s ok!!!

[9:26] bucky Barkley: we checked it out

[9:26] CDB Barkley: Yes, my connect speed is a bit slow, so vids are delayed

[9:27] bucky Barkley: with kitty and lori

[9:27] CDB Barkley: but it is ana amazing capability

[9:27] bucky Barkley: so .. note that there are other screens

[9:27] bucky Barkley: inthe boys and girls rooms

[9:27] bucky Barkley: also..

[9:27] bucky Barkley: the living room

[9:27] Krad Proto: yup, I admit that my connection speed is not that fast...

[9:27] bucky Barkley: the tv...

[9:27] bucky Barkley: anyone click on that?

[9:27] bucky Barkley: let;s head back to the living room

[9:27] Noir Scooter: Noir Scooter

[9:27] bucky Barkley: and I wil take questions

[9:27] Beatles Record Player: 128.000000

[9:28] VidMon 3.32: touch for video dialog

[9:28] VidMon 3.32: touch for video dialog

[9:29] bucky Barkley: wheee.. I am watching Lulu doing 'shout'

[9:29] bucky Barkley: ok... so the tv is another use of VidMon

[9:29] Bill Friis: I am watching "House of the Rising Sun"

[9:29] CDB Barkley: I'm watching "I can see for miles"

[9:29] bucky Barkley: and.. behind me.. is

[9:29] bucky Barkley: what VidMon looks like form my store..

[9:29] You cannot create objects here. The owner of this land does not allow it. Use the land tool to see land ownership.

[9:29] bucky Barkley: I have Torley's video tutorials

[9:29] bucky Barkley: as my samples

[9:30] bucky Barkley: and I thank him for the permissions to use them!

[9:30] bucky Barkley: so.. WebMon.. use your groups of bookmarks

[9:30] bucky Barkley: Slider -> your textures

[9:30] bucky Barkley: VidMon -> you videos!

[9:30] bucky Barkley: your..

[9:30] bucky Barkley: ok.. how is everyone doing?

[9:31] bucky Barkley: any questions?

[9:31] Bill Friis: Impressed.

[9:31] Alphabunny Jewell: super impressed

[9:31] CDB Barkley: Hmmmm- I did not click anything but hear the Beatles

[9:31] Krad Proto: nice work!!

[9:31] bucky Barkley: oh beatkles..

[9:31] Krad Proto: isn't it from the TV?

[9:31] bucky Barkley: that is the sounds stream!

[9:31] Alphabunny Jewell: the sim is quite functional and easy to navigate with even this many people here

[9:31] bucky Barkley: beatles radio

[9:31] CDB Barkley: ok

[9:31] bucky Barkley: thanks alphabunny

[9:32] Alphabunny Jewell: youre welcome Bucky

[9:32] bucky Barkley: note that there are many people here.. all watching something different

[9:32] CDB Barkley: yes

[9:32] bucky Barkley: I am tempted to go nack to

[9:32] bucky Barkley: the show downstairs

[9:32] bucky Barkley: the bebop one

[9:32] bucky Barkley: and update it..

[9:32] bucky Barkley: but...

[9:32] bucky Barkley: abbey and I are going to forge on with the next show on the

[9:32] CDB Barkley: And where can people get these tools?

[9:32] Bill Friis: Is that a hack, or does SL allow it . I thought each parcel had one media URL.

[9:32] bucky Barkley: 3rd floor

[9:32] bucky Barkley: and you can bet we will refine this :)

[9:33] bucky Barkley: ok.. CBD question -> see my picks..

[9:33] bucky Barkley: buckaroo store.. or ..

[9:33] bucky Barkley: contact me directlu

[9:33] Krad Proto: one comment is that it would be helpful to have some easy ways to navigate to the other videos , while watching one....

[9:33] bucky Barkley: bucky.barkley@gmail.com

[9:33] CDB Barkley: It would be useful for VidMon to have a menu option to stop video... (have to click a selection, then stop)

[9:33] bucky Barkley: sec..

[9:33] bucky Barkley: someone asked about hack..

[9:34] bucky Barkley: no this is the keying to an AV call

[9:34] bucky Barkley: that is in LSLS..

[9:34] bucky Barkley: LSL..

[9:34] bucky Barkley: no hack

[9:34] bucky Barkley: and...

[9:34] Bill Friis: Cool

[9:34] bucky Barkley: this works for web!

[9:34] bucky Barkley: per person web..

[9:34] BrianCB Techsan: Bucky, can you recap these tools...in a nut shell...we had a late commer ;)

[9:34] bucky Barkley: but that is not in today's demo.. will show that later day... when people have the released web client

[9:35] bucky Barkley: sec.. checking qustions..

[9:35] bucky Barkley: >> Krad Proto: one comment is that it would be helpful to have some easy ways to navigate to the other videos , while watching one....

[9:35] bucky Barkley: the limitation is...

[9:35] bucky Barkley: one video at a time

[9:35] bucky Barkley: although.. if you are watching one..

[9:35] bucky Barkley: can click for the menu and pick another

[9:35] bucky Barkley: during that..

[9:35] VidMon 3.32 whispers:

Search on channel 33 -- (times out in 30 seconds)

Example: /33 some video

[9:36] Krad Proto: oh... I see

[9:36] bucky Barkley: BrianCB Techsan: Bucky, can you recap these tools...in a nut shell...we had a late commer ;)

[9:36] bucky Barkley: lets see... we wil have a transcript so...

[9:36] bucky Barkley: webmon -> access to web via menus

[9:36] BrianCB Techsan: gotcha

[9:36] bucky Barkley: slider -> texture + give items + go to web

[9:37] bucky Barkley: vidmon -> acess to video via menu.. per person video

[9:37] CDB Barkley: Transcript will be posted to http://sl.nmc.org

[9:37] CDB Barkley: later

[9:37] Olivia Hotshot: thanks Bucky

[9:37] bucky Barkley: any othr questions?

[9:37] bucky Barkley: I will also note..

[9:37] bucky Barkley: you can play video on terrain...

[9:37] bucky Barkley: and particles..

[9:37] CDB Barkley: Are there rotating exhibits here? or will the Brit Invasion always be here?

[9:37] bucky Barkley: so there are some possibilities in that :)

[9:38] bucky Barkley: brit -> at least anorher 4-5 months I think

[9:38] bucky Barkley: will do 3rd floor next

[9:38] bucky Barkley: then 1st

[9:38] bucky Barkley: abbey and I think new show every 3

[9:38] CDB Barkley: Thats why no roof, eh?

[9:38] CDB Barkley: But it never rains

[9:38] Alphabunny Jewell: Interesting to see how much is packed into such a small area

[9:38] bucky Barkley: roof.. stay tuned :)

[9:38] bucky Barkley: oh.., reminder..

[9:38] bucky Barkley: take a show program

[9:39] bucky Barkley: from the brick

[9:39] bucky Barkley: wall or front desk

[9:39] CDB Barkley: Let's thank Bucky for a great demo!

[9:39] bucky Barkley: thanks very much everyone

[9:39] bucky Barkley: I wil hang out for a bit!

[9:39] Maxito Ricardo: Thanks!

[9:39] CDB Barkley: And tune in for the next NMC Teachers Buzz March 31 "Millennials Go to College: Traits, Parents and What Teachers Can Do with Jatt Writer"

[9:39] Alphabunny Jewell: Thanks so much Bucky
