Sendao Goodman: plz
CDB Barkley: wow, top shelf

Abbey Zenith is Online
CDB Barkley: Sl is never having to say you are sorry ;-)
Corwin Carillon: Butch?
CDB Barkley: next?
Butch Dae: Ok
Willow Shenlin: Ah! a guillotine?
CDB Barkley: handy
You shout: over to the west
Willow Shenlin: :-)
Butch Dae: This is a 3D mind map.
Sendao Goodman: oooh
Butch Dae: It is a working prototype of the 2D one I have on my desktop.
Butch Dae: I'll walk you through how it works.
Butch Dae: When I click on the center ball I get a couple of options.
Butch Dae: The owner of the mind map is the only one that has access to the Options Tab. Within it you have two choices: Toggle URL and Cleanup
LoriVonne Lustre: :-)
Butch Dae: Toggle URL allows you to put the detail display into either public or private mode. The default setting is private mode.
Butch Dae: Toggle URL allows you to put the detail display into either public or private mode. The default setting is private mode.
Butch Dae: The script operates in whisper mode so you must be within 6 meters of it to see the URL’s displayed for the detail. This is done so groups can work in close proximity without annoying one another.
Butch Dae: In Public mode, the URL is displayed in the Chat History.
Butch Dae: In Private mode you will get a blue popup window with the URL.
Butch Dae: Cleanup
Butch Dae: This option will delete all the hourglasses when you’re finished with it. You will have to manually delete the center ball.
Butch Dae: Up Level
Butch Dae: There are eight levels of topics (nodes) within the mind map. With this option you can go back a level.
Butch Dae: Top Level
Butch Dae: This option takes you back to the beginning of the mind map.
Butch Dae: Ignore
VIT Mind Map Object Giver owned by Butch Dae gave you 'VIT World Knowledge Base Operating Instructions' ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/NMC%20Labs/100/125/21 ).
Butch Dae: No options are selected, no action taken and the popup window is closed.
Butch Dae: Click on an hourglass
Butch Dae: Select a topic of interest and click on the hourglass.
Willow Shenlin: oops
Butch Dae: Drilldown
Butch Dae: This option takes you to the next level for this topic.
Butch Dae: Open Detail
Butch Dae: This option displays a URL in chat or within a blue popup window for the note information about this topic.
Butch Dae: You can also click on the center ball. Return to the top of these instructions for Clicking on the Center Ball.
Butch Dae: If no additional hourglasses are displayed that means this is the end of the line for that topic. You can then click on the center ball and either go Up level or go back to the Top Level or View This which will display the URL for the note information for that topic.
Butch Dae: I have a copy of these instruction in the giver box for you to take with you.
LoriVonne Lustre: thanks!
Jeff Kurka: cool
Corwin Carillon: Butch, do you need Mindjet's Mindmanager for this?
Aidenn Brooks: Wonderful!
Willow Shenlin: nice
Butch Dae: Corwin, no.
Heidi TeeCee: thanks!
Corwin Carillon: cool!
Sendao Goodman: Very nice work
Butch Dae: This only functions in Second Life.
CDB Barkley: amazing
Lyr Lobo grins
Lyr Lobo: great fun
Willow Shenlin: /smiles
CDB Barkley: FYI folks
Butch Dae: It is portable and low prim usage.
CDB Barkley: Graham Mills had some sort of Story building device
Willow Shenlin: impressive
Butch Dae: You can see that the big 2D mind map pictures are very resource intensive.
CDB Barkley: He could not tp here, but if want to check it out, there is a tp sign over to the side here- its up in the air
Corwin Carillon: we have quite a few gadgets to go ... so I hope you all can stay past the hour
Willow Shenlin: /nod
Butch Dae: Any other questions?
CDB Barkley: If folks are okay with leaving things here a few days
Willow Shenlin: not yet. thanks
CDB Barkley: you can come back and play
Willow Shenlin: sounds great
Lyr Lobo: *grins*
Butch Dae: The slide presenter give you some info about VIT World.
Sendao Goodman nods
Corwin Carillon: no doubt I will have later Bruce
Corwin Carillon: Butch sorry
anna Begonia: i have to go, sorry
anna Begonia: /cial
anna Begonia: /ciao
Butch Dae: Click on the box and you should be able to take a copy with you.
Lyr Lobo: bye Anna
Ann Enigma: Hi, everyone!
Corwin Carillon: bye anna
Sendao Goodman: Hi Ann :)
CDB Barkley: chow
Corwin Carillon: Hi Ann
Ann Enigma: hey!
Willow Shenlin: arriverderci
CDB Barkley: hey Ann is here
Ann Enigma: sorry I'm late...
Sendao Goodman: lol
Corwin Carillon: and now ....
Lyr Lobo: Heya Ann
Butch Dae: Some general info.
Ann Enigma: I got stuck :(
Farley Scarborough: Hi Ann
CDB Barkley: party is still goig
Corwin Carillon: Lyr!
Daf Smirnov: bye Anna
Ann Enigma: awesome
Butch Dae: Once the system has been in wait mode for a while and you click on an option in a blue popup window, nothing may happen. That means the communication between Second Life and the web site has timed-out. You will need to reselect the topic and option.
jokay Wollongong: ack... brb
Butch Dae: There is an immense amount of information stored in the mind map. There are about 1.000 topics (nodes) and thousands of links to website, articles, conferences, videos etc. There are eight levels in the map. Each level has a different color, red, blue, green, yellow, white, purple, and gray.
Butch Dae: This is a prototype we built to prove we could bring the 2D mind map that we have on the desktop in world. There were several technical challenges we had to overcome to do that.
Butch Dae: Currently this version can not edited the mind map in world. We hope to have that capability available this year.
Aidenn Brooks: It's a brilliant device.
CDB Barkley: next?
Butch Dae: Long term we want to be able to create and/or update a mind map from either the desktop, the web or in world and allow collaboration in a group setting.
Willow Shenlin: yeah.....very nice
Butch Dae: This map is focused on Virtual Information Technology. There is no limit on the content one of these mind maps can contain.
Butch Dae: see this of use from an educational perspective for large projects. The mind map allows me to organize information in a hierarchical nested structure which in turn allows me to organize my thinking. I can take the primary topic that I am working on and place it in the center. Then I can break that topic down into its primary divisions, I can add information around it. Drill down another level, based on that focus, and add more information as I go.
Butch Dae: It can also be used in an educational setting for collaborative information gathering. There are some technical limitations but it is really no different that updating a wiki. We see this useful in any setting where one needs to organize information with a large number of people.
Butch Dae: The 3D mind map is very light weight. It was designed to work within Second Life. It’s not prim intensive and does not put a lot of stress on the sim or the website. It took a lot of work to optimize it. It operates on the key of the avatar that rezzes it so several copies can be running at the same time in the same area. They just need to be at least six meters apart to avoid the interference of the URLs diplayed in chat from another copy.
Butch Dae: We plan to allow people to create there own mind maps based on a topic of their choice and have the capability of being networked together with other mind maps.
Corwin Carillon: thanks Butch! .... anyone have gadgets nearby to show?
Butch Dae: If you are interesting on helping on this project or have questions contact Butch Dae in Second Life or email me at gekurtz@comcast.net
CDB Barkley: yep
Butch Dae: yw
Corwin Carillon: oops sorry Butch
Jeff Kurka: \clap
Butch Dae: np
CDB Barkley: Thanks Butch
LoriVonne Lustre: thanks Butch
Sendao Goodman claps

CDB Barkley: way over on the oehter side
Sendao Goodman: Really cool device - can't wait to see it integrated
CDB Barkley: shny lights
Butch Dae: Thanks everyone.
Jeremy Kabumpo: /def griefer
Sloodle MetaGloss .3 NMC: Griefer: A person who goes around in Second Life and griefs other avatars. This might be in the form of caging, shooting, etc. that is unexpected and not asked for; it is a form of terrorist attack on your avatar. Griefing does not do harm and is more of a nuisance.
Sendao Goodman: hehe
Jeff Kurka: hard landing CDB :)
LoriVonne Lustre: oooo shiny!
CDB Barkley: great
CDB Barkley: This was built for us by Sendao
Sendao Goodman waves
CDB Barkley: It has a note card with avatar names
CDB Barkley: When the owner activates it goes into random mode (now)
Raffler - curved - sensor - bright - bigtext shouts: Palani Allen has won!!!
CDB Barkley: and then I can pick someone
CDB Barkley: will do three names
CDB Barkley: we doit for prizes
CDB Barkley: but could be used to choose students to be in a GROUP
CDB Barkley: If I set it up right , the box will give you a copy
Willow Shenlin: ao on
CDB Barkley: wow, I cannot move
Lyr Lobo: the box isn't giving copies or set to buy for 0$
