Professor Humby: where is he typing?
Mrags Writer: under water ruins
Professor Humby: holding my breath
Enjay Ellison: Did you set requirement at all for what they built? Like, must include a meeting space? Or was it entirely open-ended?
Mrags Writer: i'll show you the main areas and then let people explore
Rosie Luna: yes

gh Zhaoying: I just figured that someone would know what this is about.
Mrags Writer: yes unfinished
Imper Fegte: nope
bee Zimminy: a little fast to be ale to enbjoy all the scenery
Professor Humby: and they also created their own avatars?
Farley Scarborough: Every time I catch up, I see you all diappearing. *grins*
Professor Humby: obviously we walked through Atlantis (and Pirates)
Farley Scarborough: disappearing
Corwin Carillon: hehe thats what I thought about you...
Lyr Lobo: I caught some inferno
mTea Box: I guess signage would be helpful. Lots of lost avatars roaming around at the pier.
Professor Humby: Heaven and Hell ..
Omolara Writer: what was the goal of these projects?
Mrags Writer: this class wanted to do mario..... but half way into into it ran into copyright issues
Professor Humby: u got me Susan .. thx
Ninmah Ash: the lava is impressive
Susan Thibedeau: sorry
Professor Humby: 55 students in 3 groups?
Professor Humby: Susan, it was a good shove in the right direction ;-)
Mrags Writer: goal of the project was to create a production pipeline and create an enviroment
Susan Thibedeau: :-)
Mrags Writer: sorry
Professor Humby: are any of the students here?
Professor Humby: the notecard is very helpful.
Professor Humby: but it's a bit hard to read and follow :-)
Mrags Writer: the priate village is fun to look through
Susan Thibedeau: how hot was that?
Professor Humby: woohoo ..
Lyr Lobo grins
Enjay Ellison: Toasty.
Professor Humby: good morning, Lyr
Susan Thibedeau: Humby I think we need to be friends
Ilene Pratt: Where's the fire extinguisher?
Lyr Lobo: Hello Professor *grins*
Mrags Writer: so this is the hell area
Ilene Pratt: Lyr, hi!
Lyr Lobo: Ilene, Enjay *grins*
Professor Humby: i agree, Susan
Omolara Writer: hell...
Enjay Ellison: Hi Lyr!
Lyr Lobo smiles at everyone
Farley Scarborough smiles back
Ninmah Ash: did the students choose the themes themselves?
Mrags Writer: hi lyr
Professor Humby: Mrags, what reaction do you students have .. other than pride?
Professor Humby: as non-SLers
Omolara Writer: how were the students graded on their projects? Originality, theme, use of color or a set color scheme?
Mrags Writer: well there is a comment sheet back at the slide show
Mrags Writer: now we are going the fly up to heaven
Professor Humby: ah yes. i see that but haven't read it all yet. thank u
Mrags Writer: grading was a team grade
Enjay Ellison: Mrags, were there any rules or guidelines, or was it completely open-ended?
Professor Humby: to heaven .. from Hades .. in SL .. sounds like a movie tba
Susan Thibedeau: lol
Mrags Writer: everyone in the class got the same grade and were up against the other cclasses
Mrags Writer: ok up we go
Professor Humby: how were they up against?
Omolara Writer: just wondering this is truly an elaborate set up
Susan Thibedeau: brrrrrrr
Professor Humby: woohoo lucky land for me.
Omolara Writer: the contrast between heaven and hell
Professor Humby: so the students had tech problems with college puters?
Ninmah Ash: did the students create all the textures, or many of them?
Professor Humby: any thought of adding a lab at school?
Mrags Writer: between the three classes there were 55 students
Mrags Writer: mostly the internet
Mrags Writer: computers were fine
Omolara Writer: based on the outcome of this project, do u plan to do anything else similar?
Mrags Writer: the students could creat or buy textures
Professor Humby: what video cards were used?
Mrags Writer: they had a budget to work with
Enjay Ellison: were there any rules or guidelines, or was it completely open-ended?
Mrags Writer: mostly mac g5s high end for 3d programs and video editing
Mrags Writer: now if yo go higher in to the clouds you will find that a group of students made individual heavens
Professor Humby: that's an interestingtheological concept .. your own heaven
Mrags Writer: and then a bit higher you 'll find the goddess/god throne
Susan Thibedeau: do we go straight up?
Enjay Ellison: Was the teamwork a challenge for them, or did they sort that out easily?
Mrags Writer: yes but slow
Professor Humby: are these SIMs open to visit later?
Omolara Writer: whew
Mrags Writer: ok now i'm going to move forward
Tasker Coakes: lot's of folks here, but they just seem to be flying around
Devorah Corvale: that's what I noticed too
Corwin Carillon shouts: everyone ...you can have an explore on your own or come back to the NW corner and ask Mrags some questions
Enjay Ellison: Mrags, did you set any rules or requirements for the projects?
Mrags Writer: a budget, limited prims and the Otis code of conduct
Enjay Ellison: Did they find the teamwork part challenging, or was it fairly easy for them to sort out?
Mrags Writer: well they were all new to the program so it really helped them get to know each other fast
Mrags Writer: and to work into productive teams
Mrags Writer: i do hope you take time to explore because most of it will go in a week to make way for other classes
Corwin Carillon: do you archive student projects Mrags?
Mrags Writer: yes Otis will do that to this one
Imper Fegte: What do they save?
Mrags Writer: well i have documented with photos and some quicktimes
Mrags Writer: will probably put up on ipod u and utube also
Enjay Ellison: What was the class, Mrags? I may have missed the name of it. Was it for fine arts or design or media students?
Mrags Writer: concepts and issues in new media
Imper Fegte: Are objects or terrain saved?
Mrags Writer: the objects will be sent back to the owners and the terrain may be changed at that point
bee Zimminy: so this parcel of land is completely open for future student re-configuration?
Lyr Lobo: rotating classes and their exhibits
Mrags Writer: if folks want to explore i plan to stay until everyone leaves
Enjay Ellison: I need to get back to work--thanks, Mrags!
Ninmah Ash: Mrags, thank you for the tour. Before everyone wanders off, I wanted to remind you of the next Buzz in two weeks
Lyr Lobo: bye Enjay *smiles*
Mrags Writer: well porterhouse will terraform for now

Ninmah Ash: I'm going to go explore the underwater environment a bit more... I loved the sharks
Farley Scarborough: Is there anything on the Web about this, Mrags/
Farley Scarborough: Also, I heard something about a notecard?
Mrags Writer: yes click on the blue sign under the viewer behind me
Corwin Carillon: notecard is below the screen
Farley Scarborough: ah, thanks
bee Zimminy: Mrags regarding the management of the parcel for student use is overseen by a faculty member? I am sorry I missed the overview.
Mrags Writer: the library
Mrags Writer: we have a very tech savvy library
bee Zimminy: We are considering a university presence on our campus. Is this your insitution's only presence?
Mrags Writer: yes this whole sim
bee Zimminy: Does the library schedule use by various classes?
Mrags Writer: i personally have preence elsewhere
Mrags Writer: yes the library is responsible for scheduling and promoting
Lyr Lobo: great *smiles*
Mrags Writer: yes works wonderful
bee Zimminy: The student work is great. I hope we too can do something like this very soon.
Mrags Writer: and porterhouse is a master builder
Ldrew Hykova: Yes - this is a very impressive environment
Imper Fegte: bye
Ldrew Hykova: Especially for students who have no previous building experience
Mrags Writer: ty ....... not bad for 13 hours hehe
Corwin Carillon: wow!
Mrags Writer: that was the deadline
Lyr Lobo: these projects took a total of 13 hours? *smiles*
Ninmah Ash: wow, that is impressive
Lyr Lobo: great
Metaphor Voom: Nice work, Mags. Are you familiar with Educators Co-op Island?
Mrags Writer: 3hrs of class time and 10 hours of inworld time
Ldrew Hykova: How did the students learn to create the objects?
Ldrew Hykova: They've done an amazing job
Mrags Writer: they could create or buy and deconstruct
Mrags Writer: i taught them some basic building skills
Mrags Writer: and let them go
bee Zimminy: Did you supply them with a budget or did they spend their own funds?
Mrags Writer: i supplied each class with 3000 lindens as a budget
Lyr Lobo smiles
Mrags Writer: and each class had 3100 prims to work with
bee Zimminy: Were the students initially excited about the project or overwhelmed (how much coaching did they need?)
Ldrew Hykova: Did the students complain about the difficulty of programming in SL?
Mrags Writer: both
Mrags Writer: some overwhelmed and some really took to it
Mrags Writer: they still had to work in teams and all in the class got the same grade for the project
bee Zimminy: You mentioned the calss was a new media class - are these art majors? undergrads?
Bisbee Writer: i arrived late, so may have missed this, but how many students were in each class?
Mrags Writer: soph digital students new in the program
Mrags Writer: the soph year is the digital foundation year
Mrags Writer: the classes varied a bit is size but a total of 55 students
Mrags Writer: in all three classes together
Mrags Writer: again i would encourage you to explore a bit ..... i'll stay to answer any questions
