Bryan Mnemonic so this semester i decided to try two composition classes in sl...

Bryan Mnemonic and all of their assignments wer edesigned to get them out on to the grid to experience the paper topic in a very different way

Bryan Mnemonic this class is quite different from any other than most of the students have ever experienced

Bryan Mnemonic the paper topics are all on the small monitors on the wall to my right
Bryan Mnemonic there are 13 of them that students can select from
Bryan Mnemonic and they write 3 total during the semester
Bryan Mnemonic selecting a different one for each paper
Bryan Mnemonic in this environment we not only meet in world for mini lectures
Bryan Mnemonic the first was this morning on introductions and thesis statements
Bryan Mnemonic but we also meet here for small group conferences and individual conferences
Bryan Mnemonic so far, all but 3 of the students love it
Bryan Mnemonic the three who are having dificulties are non traditional and have some troule typing
Bryan Mnemonic so i can see why they may not be a fan of this environment

Bryan Mnemonic yes and yes...we have one week of tech introduction where i meet them face to face

Bryan Mnemonic students submit their papers thorugh the digital dropbox in blackboard
Bryan Mnemonic yes in the english department totally, i do those sort of courses
Bryan Mnemonic others use blackboard for most of their distance stuff

Bryan Mnemonic i wish there were a way to incorprate breeze in sl...but i'm sure that will come

Bryan Mnemonic it's server based and can be a bit on the expensive side...yes adobe breeze exactly ali

Bryan Mnemonic now in this class we use ppt on the big screen...well you know, like a ppt

totally Vavoom: so they're all in a room together in RL but meeting in SL at the time, must be aqwful quiet in that lab ;-)

Ali Andrews: I was inspired about SL and received funding for the first year from my university
Ali Andrews: they I met Bryan and because I hadn't actaully gotten any NIU faculty
Ali Andrews: interested in SL
Ali Andrews: I formed a partnership with Bryan
Ali Andrews: He helped me by his creativity for teaching here
Ali Andrews: and that gave me examples to show my faculty
Ali Andrews: in return Missouri picked up the maintenance fees for the 2nd year (not because I asked) ;)
Ali Andrews: so we have funding through September 07 now
Ali Andrews: I do most of the building and help modify scripts

Ali Andrews: no

Bryan Mnemonic no, my university provost agreed to fund it from his budget for the maintenance this academic year
Bryan Mnemonic their rationalle was new innovative teaching methods
Bryan Mnemonic so in exchange, i do demonstrations on campus quite a bit for faculty interested in sl
Bryan Mnemonic and speaking of funding and other exampels that are in the pipe
Bryan Mnemonic i just learned that a grant through the norwegian govt was just funded for the equlivant of $48000
Bryan Mnemonic to create 4 islands focused on computer science, humanities, and teacher training

totally Vavoom: this was a first year seminar class, so lots of discussoin ;-)
