Topic 4: Special Skills for Educators
Objective ... Intro to Basic Building with Application of Second Life Skills covered above

Should we have them make a poster that gives a notecard away or should we have them customize some educational tools? Not sure ...

I like teaching these concepts in conjunction with the actual tool being used. So, for example, I might kick off the session by asking them to create a simply three slide summary of what they have learned so far in the workshop. I would then teach them how to save the slides as jpegs. We would use these later during the sessions when we discuss how to create PPTs.

It would be great to do an activity at the end, like a summary of the day - where they create an inword display of everything they have learned.

Special note:
(if we had more time an overarching activity would be great to use to tie everything together. Create an educational display perhaps ... working in teams, divide out tasks for the group such as one person making a notecard and embedding it in an object, another creating a poster, another linking an object to outside web, another setting up an image screen? ... have base objects in their gift bag with some textures, etc. ... )

Objects:
Blank Poster
Blank gift bag or something to that gives something away?
Notecard giver script (in gift bag)

Importance of Textures
File formats

Activity:

Set permissions
Rename
Take a copy

Lesson Two: Moving objects
Position ... arrows, build menu
Rotate
World, Local
Activity: Moving Poster, rotating Poster?

Lesson Three: Making a Notecard
Inserting Text
Inserting Landmarks (provide matching landmarks in gift bag to interesting educational places in sl that match texture subjects ... science, health science, English, authors)
Activity:
Make Notecard
Insert into Poster
