Symposium on Creativity: Wednesday Highlights

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 16, 2007 10:35am

The Wednesday schedule for the NMC Symposium on Creativity in Second Life was deliberately made more open, mostly to allow for possible downtimes for SL updates (and there was one in the morning), but also to give folks a breathing break! It's been an exciting schedule, and maybe a bit over the top for those needing to get some Rl balance. But the NMC Conference Center had some action, people were over in the Studio areas tinkering on projects, etc. By ... more » »

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 16, 2007 01:24am

We have an exciting announcement shared with us today by Thinkerer Melville (aka Selby Evans, Texas Christian University) on the Thinkerer Challenge-- see below for more information, but we also took the opportunity to record a short audio interview with Thinkerer. Thinkerer Challenge Second Life's "Thinkerer Challenge" Awards to Foster Tools from the Metaverse That Benefit Real Life August 15, 2007 (Thinkerers Quest, Second Life) - Thinkerer Studios - a network of residents in the virtual online world of Second Life - today ... more » »

Symposium on Creativity: Tuesday Highlights

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 15, 2007 12:39am

Here's a quick recap of the sessions I saw today at the NMC Symposium on Creativity in Second Life. Only about two days into this week long event, it is apparent that our breakout session presenters have really caught our intended spirit of making the sessions very active, so there is no sitting in rows looking at flat slides! I missed the first session of the day, The Magician's Cookbook: Scripted Solutions for Non-Programmers from Lyr Lobo (aka Cynthia Calongne, Colorado ... more » »

Symposium on Creativity: Monday Highlights

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 13, 2007 10:25pm

It's going to be a challenge to provide comprehensive coverage of this week's Symposium on Creativity given... there's so much going on! Sadly, I am not able to be at all sessions, and we are counting on people at the sessions to be blogging, taking photos, and tagging everything with slcreativity. Starting off today, Emby Semaphore (aka Michael Berman, Art Center College of Design) ran a session on Taking the Mystery Out of Scripting – A Hands-on Workshop (see below ... more » »

Why Creativity Matters

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 13, 2007 09:00pm

It's been about 12 hours since the first full day of the NMC Symposium on Creativity launched, and what a day its been. Catching up on the activity is going to be a big job, mostly left for "later", but we wanted to make sure to share the video archive of Larry Pixel's (aka Larry Johnson) keynote session on Why Creativity Matters. Keynote video [46.9 Mb Quicktime]. Also available on Google Video and blip.tv. And see below for the remarks as ... more » »

Symposium on Creativity Opened Today!

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 13, 2007 12:15am

After months of planning, and watching the fabulous builds unfold created by the NMC Virtual Worlds team, it was exciting to see all the activity, enthusiasm for todays opening of the week-long Symposium on Creativity in Second Life. That's not to say it was perfect (This is Second Life after all, where your world just may crash on you- 5 times) -- right at the opening of the Studio Sessions, no one was able to teleport anywhere, so folks could ... more » »

Incredible SkyDance

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Nov 30, 2006 10:08am

Last night's ZeroG SkyDancer performance was an incredible event hosted here on NMC Campus. There were 3 performances, and the audiences showed up (not without some trouble at 7PM due to problems with the Wednesday grid upgrade) in their finest formal wear. What DanCoyote Antonelli produces in these shows really fails to be described in words, or even pictures. The Skydancer troupe, Anhinga Chaika, Deborah Strangelove, Callipygian Christensen, Tatiana Kurri, Queue Marlowe, adorn rather unusual avatar 'clothes' that render them as ... more » »
