With so many blogs to write in, photos to post, and places to be in Second Life, we humbly aplogize for not sharing a video from way back in.. August 2007. As you ought to have memorized, this was the NMC's first every online conference hosted completely in Second Life- the NMC Symposium on Creativity in SL.
While we have a good pile of tagged media and stories on the main NMC web site, we goofed and completely forgot to ... more » »

It's been more than a week since the end of the NMC Symposium on Creativity on Second Life, yet we continue to find thing to share! As noted, from the Friday highlights, we ended that day with 3 performances of DanCoyote Antonelli's ZeroG SkyDancers, one of the most unique and demonstratively creative art forms in Second Life (learn more about DC's concepts of hyperformalism...)
During the show, like many of you, I was taking lots of snapshots (see 1000+ flickr photos ... more » »

This was the last of seven incredible days of the NMC Symposium on Creativity in Second Life. After a full week, I must admit I took a "cat nap" Saturday morning and missed the sessions on "Introduction to Scripting in Second Life", "Improvisation and Second Life", and "Effective Communication Design with Scripted Objects" (the latter two were second offerings).
At 4:00 PM we welcomed back the lovely and articulate Anya Ixchel (aka Angela Thomas, University of Sydney) for another insightful session ... more » »

While we covered the first session (Ted Kahn on Synectics) from Friday as a separate post, this day of the Symposium on Creativity might have been the most full, and this, most challenging to summarize, even now, a few days after the fact.
So there is going to be a long stream of photos here- but also, stay tuned to the longer stream accumulating on our slcreativity flickr tag of shared photos, well over 1000 images as of this post.

The Friday schedule for the NMC Symposium on Creativity in Second Life opened with a very special presentation by SynapticWizard Karas (aka Ted M. Kahn) of DesignWorlds for Learning, Inc. but also the very first NMC Fellow. Ted brought us a classic theoretial concept of Synectics into the virtual space through this session and his activities.

After an unbelievable 8 day stretch of events, the NMC Symposium on Creativity in Second Life ended today following a morning and afternoon of more sessions on scripting, improvisation techniques, avatars... We had great closing panel session on "Creativity and Education in SL" (despite our challenges with audio, the show went on).
Ths Symposium closed with remarks by Larry Pixel (aka Larry Johnson) highlighting the profound experience we all had this week, especially because of the creative spirit of not just ... more » »

We are so excited to share the work of one of the participants at this week's NMC Symposium on Creativity on Second Life. Calisto Encinal (aka James Abraham, Glendale Community College) participated in the Machinima Studio Session, where he created Calisto Meets His Maker, a creative look at not just a virtual world, but.... well, I don't want to give any of it away.
Just watch!

While Wednesday was a less fully scheduled day, that's over, so for Thursday it was another jam packed day here at the NMC Symposium on Creativity.
First up at 9:00 AM, Buhbuhcuh Fairchild from Alt-Zoom Studios presented an Intro to Machinima - a repeat of his session earlier in the week. This dog was napping, for those who are interested, we did score a chat log transcript of the first session. As a special, neat thing to share, we used ... more » »

As a special, fun event, yesterday evening we had a social activity held at a lofty 600 meters above NMC Campus, a new NMC Faculty Club designed by Stella Costello. We were fortunate to have live music performed for us by Chronic Skronski.
And to add to the atmosphere, we made use of Lyr Lobo's Dance Machine to smoothly choreograph the avatar audience (this is the same device she has demonstrated twice in her sessions on Dancin' with Wolves: Lyr Lobo's ... more » »
