In the Teachers Buzz meeting last Monday, it turned out that quite a number of the 35 avatars in attendance are teaching or mentoring on the teen grid. The three presenters, KJ, Clare and Victoria are conducting their research at least in part on the teen grid, so this is perhaps not so surprising. [Please see the links to their blogs in the earlier post here.]
During the discussion, which touched on the immersive nature of students and teachers experiences in ... more » »

Due to some internal mixups on announcing times, we ended up posting a meeting time for today's Teacher Buzz session as both 9am and 6pm. Fortunately, we had enough people showup at both to have two rounds of great conversations.
Both took place at the Dreams Community, where currently there is a fair going on with all kinds of booths from educators and people working with helping agencies. It is well worth a visit!
In the morning a group of maybe 10-12 ... more » »

Coming up Monday, 9:00 am PDT, April 16, the next NMC Campus Teachers Buzz combines two aspects into one meeting -- a guest speaker and a field trip. We are taking the meeting location on the road, to the Dreams Community Fair, an event dedicated to teaching and community building, which takes place April 14-28. Our NMC colleague Ravanelle Z is setting up an NMC booth at this event, and has arrange a time and place we can hold ... more » »

Thanks to conflicting schedules, I haven't had the chance to sit in on a Teacher's Buzz session in a while. So, getting back into the game yesterday for a special session that allowed seasoned Second Lifers, not-so-noob-anymore noobs, and educators from the TCC Online Conference to meet and greet was an absolute treat!
The conversation was fast and furious, both in the public forum, and in IM back channels - some of us caught up with each other ;-). Questions crowded ... more » »

Join us Tuesday, Apr 3, 6PM, to meet and greet some educators who are visiting as part of the TCC Online Conference -- they are part of a pre-conference workshop on Second Life. Come and share your lessons learned, tips, recommendations to some teachers interested in learning how to get started in Second Life.
We meet on the Quad at the NMC Sim, Teaching, and now you don't even need to join a group to visit here! ... more » »

Gaming and learning is growing as more and more research is done on the subject and Second Life affords educators a basic gaming engine.Tonight we had a fun and educational NMC Teachers Buzz with Jeremy Koester (aka Jeremy Braver) leading a discussion on Gaming & Learning in Second Life using a small group math activity to get across the points he was making. He quickly got the participants to break out into small groups and follow instructions on a notecard. ... more » »
