Educators in Second Life Survey

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : May 2, 2007 05:23pm

The NMC is interested in learning more about the ever growing number of educators who are using or exploring Second Life. To conduct some research, we have just launched a 42 item, anonymous online survey aimed at educators (faculty, staff, student, administrator) who have an active Second Life account. Our questions aim to get an understanding of their SL preferences, behaviors in Second Life, their current or future planned educational activities, and some demographics/technology use of this group. We Birthed Our First Avatar

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Apr 24, 2007 03:34pm

There's some exciting work underway at NMC Campus. We are working with the Linden Lab API for account generation that will allow us to host our own new user account creation form on this web site, rather than going through the form at the main Second Life web site. When the account is created, a new avatar will not be sent to the Orientation Island with every other newbie, but they will go to our own custom Orientation Island. So this ... more » »

Can You Hear Me Now?

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Mar 30, 2007 03:29pm

This cliche phrase is something you may see in many chat windows. Up until now, voice communication in Second Life was limited to use of technologies that exisit outside of SL - TeamSpeak, Skype, Ventrilo, etc. But as rumors and announcements have rolled out this year, stand back as voice communication is coming as an integrated feature within Second Life. A few weeks ago we were able to invite a group of 100+ avatars (spread over a few time sessions) onto ... more » »

Second Convention

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Feb 2, 2007 11:42pm

Why not? Some folks have planned a Second Life version of a convention, calling it Second Convention. It's offering advertised segments on Socializing, Creations, Fashions, Racing, And Humor-- are these the five senses? No Learning or Education, but heck, it could be Fun. Conventions are a great deal of fun, they're a great way to find out what's happening in a community, and a great way for businesses to connect with their consumers. There is however one problem with every Convention, they ... more » »

We've just gotten word from NMC Member University of Michigan's 3D Lab of a new development using the open sourced Second Life client. So you might strap on a pair of 3D movie glasses and see how the world of Second Life looks as 3D projection! The University ... more » »
