We are excited to announce that starting Monday, NMC Campus will be a partner site for tuning into the weekly Metanomics events that bring together many of the thought leaders in virtual worlds.
“Metanomics†refers to the study of the business and policy aspects of the “metaverse†of virtual worlds. Metanomics can focus on issues arising within virtual worlds, such as how developers manage the economy of a game world (like World of Warcraft), or how residents of virtual worlds ... more » »

Thanks to an invite from Fleep Tuque, I and seven other educators got a tour and rich experience with PARSEC-- an installation? an immersive game? an interactive art piece? it is all very hard to define in words. PARSEC is a project created by Dizzy Banjo, Eshi Otawara and Chase Marellan... we thank Eshi greatly for allowing us to interrupt her to give us a tour.
On entering PARSEC (a giant seeming infiinite white dome), each of seven avatars dons a ... more » »

With so many blogs to write in, photos to post, and places to be in Second Life, we humbly aplogize for not sharing a video from way back in.. August 2007. As you ought to have memorized, this was the NMC's first every online conference hosted completely in Second Life- the NMC Symposium on Creativity in SL.
While we have a good pile of tagged media and stories on the main NMC web site, we goofed and completely forgot to ... more » »

On Tue Sep 4, Hackshaven Harford gave a great tour of some of the new features of the NOAA sims in Second Life. Starting from the original Meteora sim, and after a brief intro to Hackshaven's NOAA and Maya Realities work we were treated to a tour of some the new exhibits and a great demo of the Maya Realities avatar heat map. We watched as large translucent, colored boxes (none of your wood variety here!) appeared. Different colors representing ... more » »

While we covered the first session (Ted Kahn on Synectics) from Friday as a separate post, this day of the Symposium on Creativity might have been the most full, and this, most challenging to summarize, even now, a few days after the fact.
So there is going to be a long stream of photos here- but also, stay tuned to the longer stream accumulating on our slcreativity flickr tag of shared photos, well over 1000 images as of this post.

It's going to be a challenge to provide comprehensive coverage of this week's Symposium on Creativity given... there's so much going on! Sadly, I am not able to be at all sessions, and we are counting on people at the sessions to be blogging, taking photos, and tagging everything with slcreativity.
Starting off today, Emby Semaphore (aka Michael Berman, Art Center College of Design) ran a session on Taking the Mystery Out of Scripting – A Hands-on Workshop (see below ... more » »

It's been about 12 hours since the first full day of the NMC Symposium on Creativity launched, and what a day its been. Catching up on the activity is going to be a big job, mostly left for "later", but we wanted to make sure to share the video archive of Larry Pixel's (aka Larry Johnson) keynote session on Why Creativity Matters.
Keynote video [46.9 Mb Quicktime]. Also available on Google Video and blip.tv. And see below for the remarks as ... more » »
