Our latest in world interview is with Ruby Snook, a.k.a. Jan Baum who is Program Director in Interdisciplinary Object Design, Metals and Jewelry at Towson University. Over the last few years, Jan has actively used Second Life as a visualization tool for students in her art production classes and has found it an effective teaching tool in the art design process.
We have rented a car in Moscow
We spoke last week over at NMC Campus to learn more about the projects ... more » »

We recently got word that Aurili Oh (aka Suzanne Aurilio from San Diego State University) recently finished her PhD dissertation on a study of how informal learning happens in Second Life. We thought it would be interesting to talk to her about her research, what she learned, and implications for teaching and learning in virtual worlds.
Interview with Aurili Oh [14 Mb MP3 19:22]
I've been more interested in talking to educators given several recent articles / blog posts suggesting "Second life ... more » »

Through an IM from our pal Down Under, chief Jokaydian-- JoKay Wollongong (aka Jo Kay who is from Wollongong, the luckiest avatar name choice ever!)-- we enjoyed this fantastic video created by education.au's Immersive Learning Unit. What's great is that it includes excellent educational applications in several virtual worlds platforms (Second LIfe, Quest Atlantis and World of Warcraft) but also interviews and real videos of faculty and students engaged in the activities.
And w00t- if you look closely, you will identify ... more » »

In our humble apology department, we've been remiss on not getting around to doing this interview earlier. CJ Carnot (aka CJ Holden) and Stella Costello (aka Beth Sactjen) have been the master builders for NMC Virtual Worlds projects for a long time, and we have yet to nail them down to talk about the work they do. So we grabbed some of their time today to talk about work on our home base of NMC Campus.

Can you believe it has been so long since we ran ain in world interview? Would you believe my dog at my microphone? Hmmm, I did not think so.
Speaking of a while ago, many of you probably recall fondly the May 2007 Best Practices in Second Life Conference. Completely organized by volunteers, SLBPE was a 24 hour marathon of learning, and logged well over 1400 avatars participating.
Today we spoke to Phelan Corrimal (aka Kevin Feenan) of Rockcliffe University, who ... more » »

For anyone who missed this summer's hit performance on NMC Campus of The Wall V2 by CARP, director Debbie Trilling has released her own machinima series that captures the entire performance in video form. These are all available on YouTube from Debbie's account and we have also assembled them into a playlist viewable below.
But wait, there's more video to see! Gary Hazlitt has published his 44 minute video of the Wall V2 Performance:

One of our NMC Virtual Worlds projects this year was construction of the virtual campus for the University of the Pacific which included a mixture of replication of campus structures, such as Burns Tower, and creation of new spaces which only exist on the virtual campus.
Since the ribbons were cut May 7, 2008, faculty and staff at the University have been busy using the space and developing new applications for therr virtual learning space.
They are inviting you to ... more » »

During the summer of 2008, NMC Campus was pleased to have hosted the twice weekly performance of CARP's (Cybernetic Art Research Project) Second Life interpretation of Pink Floyd's "The Wall". As a follow up to the "final brick" show in late August, Second Life video virtuoso Gary Hazlitt has been hard at work creating a full 43 minute video of the performance.
As a sneak preview, Gary has published his own video interpretation of The Wall V-2, and ironically, has placed ... more » »

Yesterday we took the massive audio equipment for NMC Studio One (that is a joke, we just use voice chat and WireTap Studio Pro) over to NMC Orientation to talk to Robins Hermano, who we learned is akin to the circus daredevils, by planning this fall to bring 700 of his accounting students into Second Life.
Robins RL avatar is Steve Hornik, an accounting professor in the College of Business Administration at University of Central Florida. Robins has been using ... more » »

It has been a long time we managed an in world audio interview. Would you believe the dog ate my microphone? Hmmm, I did not think so. But when you listen to the audio (apologies in advance) you will see how rusty I am. Details on this part follow below.
I spoke briefly to Chase Marellan, who in real life is Nicholas Chase, programmer and author, and a principal at InterSection Unlimited, makers of a very interesting Second Life application called ... more » »
