Posting Events

This information is for people who have been provided an account on this site to post their Second Life events. If you do not have an account, please contact us and let us know what kinds of events you wish to share.

Note that all entries added to the NMC Campus Community Calendar are automatically posted as well to the front page of the NMC Campus Observer site. This process is done every 4 hours, so please allow ample lead time before yor event.

Pleas do NOT copy/paste content from MS word or E-mail or any other site that will carry HTML cruft. Use plain text and the WordPress editing tools and your content will not end up mangled (or deleted by the tired web manager.

Adding a New Event

Each event listed is a blog post, so just click the Write tab (top left). Enter a descriptive Title and use the Post field to enter as much information you wish to describe your event, including images, embedded content, hyperlinks. Do not include the exact date and location, those are entered as described below.

Select Categories

Check as many boxes that best describe the kind of event you are adding.

Add Tags

You can add any tags you wish to describe your event. One approach might be to tag all of your events with something to describe them, so our site would provide a link to all of your events and an RSS feed for it.

For example, if I tagged all of our events nmc, this URL would display all of tagged events:

http://sl.nmc.org/calendar/tag/nmc/

You are welcome to use any other tags you wish.

Enter Time and Location

We have set up the templates on this site to automatically link SLURLs and to display the event time with an automatic link to the World Time Clock. You do not have to use this approach, but we recommend it for consistency.

To enter this information, look towards the bottom of the editing screen for the Custom Fields area (you may have to toggle the fields open).

To add the SLURL, under Add a new custom field: select slurl from the menu on the left.

Enter the SLURL for your event location in the value field and click the Add Custom Field button.

Next, you will enter the time for your event- all times entered here must be in Pacfic Time! For this to work, you must enter the date/time in a very specific format (but it is worth the effort)

The format is YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss so if there are any single digit values, preceded them with zeroes. For example, an event that starts on May 8, 2008 at 9:00 am PDT would be entered as 2008-05-08 09:00:00. If the time is after noon, use 24 hour notation; an event the same day but ay 6:30Pm would be entered 2008-05-08 18:30:00

When the post is published, thw template will generate this information as something like:

If you need any help with creating your content here, please contact us, thanks!
