The University of Delaware is holding our 15th annual Summer Faculty Institute June 1-4.  We are having a great line up of morning keynote speakers for each day and we are going to simulcast them to the the UD islands so you can join us.

Bryan Carter – University of Central Missouri,

The Medium is “part” of the Message: Second Life and Using New Media in the Modern Classroom

Bryan is known in Second Life as Bryan Mnemonic and creator of Virtual Harlem. He is a professor of Africa American lit and visual culture at University of Central Missouri. He is currently teaching cyberculture and composition courses within SL and hopes to expand that to include his literature courses.

Bryan will be speaking live in Second Life. If you have not had a chance to meet Bryan, come on over.  He will be speaking to us about some of the tools you can use for effective instruction on-line.

Alan Fox – University of Delaware, “Engaging the Best Students.”

Alan Fox is a two-time recipient of the Faculty Senate’s Excellence in Teaching Award, the highest teaching award offered at the University of Delaware. In Fox’s approach to teaching, the term “passive learning” is an oxymoron.  All learning is active, Fox believes, adding it is something students do, and teaching involves helping them do it in the most productive way.
