Two Live Simulcasts 3/10/2010

Hello,

The University of Delaware will be hosting two live simulcasts this Wednesday March 10th.
We invite both you and you’re students to join us on the UD islands for one or both of these events.

The first live simulcast runs from 12:00-1:00 pm SLT (3:00-4:00 ET) and is hosted by the University of Delaware’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.
Our guest speaker is DAVID DIVINCENZO who’s topic is “Prospects for Superconducting Quantum Computers”
David DiVincenzo has been a Research Staff Member in the Physical Sciences Department at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY, since 1985. He has worked throughout his career in various problems in condensed matter physics. Since 1993, he has explored quantum information theory and the physical realizations of quantum computers. In particular, he is known for proposing a set of five criteria (commonly called DiVincenzo’s checklist) for the physical implementation of quantum computers. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Editor-in-Chief of the Virtual Journal of Quantum Information. Dr. DiVincenzo received his Ph.D. (1983), M.S.E. (1980) and B.S.E. (1979) from the University of Pennsylvania.

Global Agenda 2010-Understanding Political Islam

The topic this week is “Living with Political Islam” with guest speaker NICHOLAS SCHMIDLE.
Nicholas Schmidle lived and reported among the Taliban in Pakistan from 2006-08, before being deported.
He has also worked in Iran, Afghanistan, Bangladesh,Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. He speaks Persian and Urdu, and is a graduate of James Madison and American universities
