Two Ways to Toot Your Own Horn

Want to tell the world about how your educational project or course makes use of virtual worlds? If your organization is an NMC Member, you can create a Member Spotlight on the NMC website; Spotlights are featured on the NMC home page on a rotating, randomly selected basis. Whether or not you belong to the NMC, you can also place a link to your course or project that uses Second Life, Wonderland, or Croquet on Media Grid’s Immersive Education page.

NMC Member Spotlights
To submit a spotlight, log in to your NMC web account and choose Create Content from the menu on the left. Then pick Member Spotlight. The short form asks for a title, keywords, and a description. You can add a screenshot, and please include a square thumbnail image for the teaser spot on the home page (see highlighted section at left). Anyone from an NMC member organization may submit a Spotlight.

Media Grid’s Immersive Education Page
The Immersive Education Initiative at Media Grid is an international collaboration of learning-focused institutions interested in researching, promoting, describing, and developing standards and best practices for using virtual reality and game-based learning and training. They are updating their web page and expanding the section currently called “Immersive Education Courses at Boston College” to include courses, programs, and research projects at other institutions that involve Second Life, Croquet, and/or Wonderland. If you would like your course or program to be listed, please fill out their short contact form — be sure to include the name of the project or course, the organization, and the name of the teacher or principal researcher.

So go ahead — toot your horn!
