We are excited to announce that starting Monday, NMC Campus will be a partner site for tuning into the weekly Metanomics events that bring together many of the thought leaders in virtual worlds.
“Metanomics†refers to the study of the business and policy aspects of the “metaverse†of virtual worlds. Metanomics can focus on issues arising within virtual worlds, such as how developers manage the economy of a game world (like World of Warcraft), or how residents of virtual worlds ... more » »

Thanks to an invite from Fleep Tuque, I and seven other educators got a tour and rich experience with PARSEC-- an installation? an immersive game? an interactive art piece? it is all very hard to define in words. PARSEC is a project created by Dizzy Banjo, Eshi Otawara and Chase Marellan... we thank Eshi greatly for allowing us to interrupt her to give us a tour.
On entering PARSEC (a giant seeming infiinite white dome), each of seven avatars dons a ... more » »

Coming up Monday, Wainbrave Bernal (aka Jonathan Richter form University of Oregon) is visiting the NMC Campus Teachers Buzz Session to tell us about the SaLamander Project -- an interesting weaving of several technologies designed to have educators tag and catalog the best resources and learning materials in Second Life.
As described by Wainbrave,
The SaLamander Project is an open Second Life education community with a mission to develop a searchable peer-reviewed database of educational builds and tools in Second Life. Using ... more » »

This is a 3d immersion installation based on two paintings by Strawberry Holiday called "Certainty" and "Reality." When combined, they're called "On Their Journeys."
Strawberry Holiday, speaking about "On Their Journeys" says:
The beginning represents reality in a lot of ways for ... more » »

it's been quite some time since the NMC Symposium on the Evolution of Communication, held way back in early December, 2007. It was such a huge event, its taken us this long to organize all the resources (please activate your avatar's nodding head in agreement animation).
Below we provide some of the highlights, mainly links to the archived video of the sessions. These videos were archived from our set up that provided live video streams to our overflow sims, but required ... more » »

Things just keep getting more interesting as people are finding ways to connect, mix, real life and virtual worlds. Why spend time in just one? The Augmented Reality Second Life project at Georgia Institute of Technology is doing some fascinating experiments with having things manipulated in Second Life appear live, moving, in real life... including SL avatars.
In this research project, we demonstrate that MMOs also provide a powerful platform for Augmented Reality (AR) applications. We introduce the notion of AR ... more » »
