Next NMC Teachers Buzz: GCCAz Island- Glendale Community College
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Nov 10, 2007 04:47pm
Our next NMC Campus Teachers Buzz Session goes on the road, as we pay a visit to GCCAz, the Second Life home of Glendale Community College (GCC) (RL in Phoenix, Arizona). Come to this session to learn more about use of Second Life at a Community College and the team effort GCC used to make it all happen.

This tour and discussion time is being organized for us by Calisto Encinal and colleagues at GCC, with a title of “GCCAz Island-Glendale Community College: The Pixels and the Chemistry to Bring It All Together”:
Join us at GCCAz for an evening discussion on the development of an island. We would like to share how our “SLers” group came together, how we manage our island for campus, faculty and student use and how we are using our island right now for education. We would also like to debut and share a tool for measuring usage on the island. Developed “in-house,” this tool tracks avatars and displays their time spent numerically and also on a hot spot map. Great for documenting usage and justifying your island purchase to reluctant administrators. We hope you can join us for a casual evening discussing these topics and more at GCCAz.
When: Monday, November 12, 2007 at 6:00 PM Pacific Time (check for local time)
Where: GCCAz (53,244,30)
IM For Help: Corwin Carillon or Calisto Encinal
I for one was looking forward to this session as these are my former colleagues from Maricopa Community Colleges, but sadly have a RL activity that takes precedence. Have no worries, you are in great hands with the folks from GCC!

Hi Corwin/Nick !
that sounds even better ! ..and UUPS
, but actually I did not recognize until exactly after having pressed “submit” that I mixed up something checking my grandiously oversceduled googlecalendar full of sl-related events; I do not mind staying up until 3 am, actually I work nearly all the time at the moment, but SL crashes after 10 minutes since some weeks, unhappily.
Thank you
I WILL probably not be able to attend too
Thank you anyway – time gets more and more relative luckily;-) !
I hoped you would just not put my mistake there
There is no need to post this comment, it was just to say thank you.
Kind Regards, Julia (Lilo Merlin)

Please let me know when you might have another event like this. Our university is considering utilizining Second Life, but as yet we are rank amateurs.
Thanks!

Katherine- all Teachers Buzz events are announced on this web site, and are listed in advance on our wiki:
http://sl.nmc.org/wiki/Teachers_Buzz_Session
and we send email notices to the Second Life Educators listserv. If you Join the NMC Community, you can elect to get email notices of future events:
http://sl.nmc.org/join
hope that helps
