Monday Teacher Buzz- Halloween at Gothic Lit Haunted House

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Oct 27, 2007 07:25am

Rummage through your inventory for a costume and join us Monday, Oct 29 for the next NMC Teacher's Buzz Session- a Halloween celebration hosted at a new Gothic Literature sim built by the dynamic duo Eloise Pasteur and Desideria Stockton. Of course, when you think about it, the notion of "dressing up in a costume" in Second Life has some sort of weird recursive effect. Don't think about, just be creative. We have some Linden prize money set up for best ... more » »

The Singing Professor

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Oct 26, 2007 03:42pm

Here at the Campus Observer, we have enjoyed watching Professor Beliveau's experience in Second Life -- going way back to the beginning when he refused to give his credit card and tried to make it by scrounging casino money ;-) The Professor has done a tremendous amount of serious work in Second Life, and he has authored several articles for us (as well as presentations) sharing his experiences of teaching undergraduate field research courses entirely in Second Life. It was great when ... more » »

Larry Pixel habla de España

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Oct 17, 2007 05:09pm

We were a little unsure whether the streaming video would work, but yesterday, Larry Pixel (aka Larry Johnson) gave a presentation on Second Life from the UNESCO eLearning Conference in Barcelona that was streamed live into NMC Campus to Red Rocks Theater in Research Park. Larry shows the audience one of the Second Health videos How truly flat-worldish it was to watch my NMC colleague, who lives in Texas, present in Spain, as I viewed it from a hotel room in ... more » »

RL Teleport

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Oct 15, 2007 10:19pm

Just as an update, the news here my have slowed to a trickle due to some Rl travel. I have been teleported (the "grid" - a 747 - was slow, it took 17 hours!) to Australia in RL, for a hectic 3 week speaking tour of the capital cities. Currently, I am in Melbourne, having a start of the trip in Tasmania, and from here onto Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, Darwin, Brisbane, and Sydney again. I hope to try and catch some ... more » »

NMC Publishes Results of Educators in SL Survey

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Oct 9, 2007 06:55pm

It was last May when we put out a call for people to complete our 42 item survey intended to profile educators involved in Second Life. It took a bit longer than we hoped to compile the results, but we have recently announced them on the NMC web site. The released documents, a summary of the data and appendix with all responses from the open ended items, are released under Creative Commons license. There is so much to the survey, that ... more » »
