Next Teachers Buzz: DanCoyote & Full Immersion Hyperformalism
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Sep 19, 2007 04:18pm
With our many excellent collaborations with visionary artist DanCoyote (DC), we’ve been eager to find a time when he might visit our NMC Teachers Buzz group to talk about his art, performance, and stretching the possibilities of creativity in this place.
It’s all arranged as he is coming to our next meeting to help us understand “Full Immersion Hyperformalism”.
The organizing principle behind this exhibition is to encourage guests to take advantage of Second Life’s ability to “cut the tethers” that hold us in the gravity based world and gently release real life concepts like “Ground” and “Water” in favor of another, less encumbered experiential space.
Hyperformalism is formalist abstraction in hyper medium. By disabling rendering of facsimiles of real life, a surreal space for viewing art is created. Things no longer conform to the field of view of your avatar and scale and context are no longer measured against the arbitrary figurative standard. People! You are not puppets!

Join us on October 1, 2007 at special time 11:00am PST/SLT (check local time). We will meet at DC’s current exhibiton NMC’s Arts and Letters for some discussion, a tour, and Q&A at Arts and Letters (43, 136, 707).
