NMC Tour For Australia Visitors
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Sep 11, 2007 11:53am
Last night I gave a tour of NMC regions for a group of educators from Australia, on behalf of a request from Glenda Arrow (aka Glenda McPherson, Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE). An hour goes quick trying to explain a lot of history and topics in chat, and hoping to teleport the group of about 15 to several locations (it was made easy thanks to one of Lyr Lobo’s map scripts shared by Corwin Carillon).

We met on NMC Conference Center where I spoke a bit about the NMC, its events such as the August Symposium on Creativity in Second Life, and indicated the location of the new Orientation Island. We looked at the resources in Farnsworth Station and the exposition area. Next we jetted to the Performance Theater on Learning, where I tried to demonstrate the holodeck tool that allows us to transform the layout of the theater very quickly.

Lastly, we visited the education community on NMC’s Teaching, one of several of our sub-leased islands that education organizations can rent for a low fee, and explore the potential of Second Life w/o investing for a full sim.
But yes, an hour went too quickly! I did post a chat log We had some good questions and obviously, virtual worlds and Second Life are of strong interest in Australia– and got a great tip on AusSLERS the Australian SL Educators and Researchers group.
And I hope to meet up with some of this group in person next month when I get to do some speaking engagements around Australia… more on that soon, as some of the talks are about virtual worlds, and I hope to link in with a virtual audience during these presentations.
Thanks Glenda for bringing a great group to visit us- and you are more than welcome to return to our places for more exploration.
