Late last week, one of our colleagues at Princeton University dropped us a notecard with some info on their activities this week for the opening of their sim at Princeton University (144, 148, 24) -- actually it is a 4-plex of sims.
But we slacked, on getting the word out, but there is one more event tomorrow-- Friday, September 28 at 1:30 SLT Thom Dowd performs live Renaissance and Baroque music at Alexander Hall.

There's been quite an active back and forth this week on the Second Life Educators (SLED) listserv as people advocate for and against the desire to be able to render a full functioning web content on an object in Second Life.
I too have wishes for more connectivity between the virtual world and the web world, especially to be able to dynamically texture a prim with an image via a URL. Oh give me an easy flickr on a prim, and ... more » »

With our many excellent collaborations with visionary artist DanCoyote (DC), we've been eager to find a time when he might visit our NMC Teachers Buzz group to talk about his art, performance, and stretching the possibilities of creativity in this place.
It's all arranged as he is coming to our next meeting to help us understand "Full Immersion Hyperformalism".
The organizing principle behind this exhibition is to encourage guests to take advantage of Second Life’s ability to “cut the tethers” that hold ... more » »

Got Plork? Why not?
Monday's discussion for the NMC Campus Teachers Buzz was lively and fast moving! Guest host Aurilli Oh set up a conversation about "PLORK: Adults at play and work: A Collective Reflection" advertised as:
Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned resident, you’ve probably noticed that Second Life is a bundle of plork. It’s fun, satisfying, frustrating, intense. It’s a lot of thinking and feeling rolled up into flow (Csiksczentmihalyi, 1991) experiences for many of us. Aurili led a ... more » »

If, like us, you've found yourself inspired by the performances of DanCoyote Antonelli's ZeroG Skydancers (see the video from the August performance on NMC Campus), you may be interested in this one! We have just gotten word that DC is holding auditions for dancers to join his team.
Second Life’s critically acclaimed ZeroG SkyDancers are issuing a call to Second Life residents with a desire to train to perform with the world renowned ZeroG SkyDancers team founded in early 2006 ... more » »

Last night I gave a tour of NMC regions for a group of educators from Australia, on behalf of a request from Glenda Arrow (aka Glenda McPherson, Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE). An hour goes quick trying to explain a lot of history and topics in chat, and hoping to teleport the group of about 15 to several locations (it was made easy thanks to one of Lyr Lobo's map scripts shared by Corwin Carillon).

In the Backlog of Back Blog Department, I forgot to mention a nice sim opening last week for GCCAz, the home of Glendale Community College, home of colleagues at my previous job. They had a celebration on the GCCAz Student Union in Second Life as well as demos at the college's High Tech Center.
Among videos screened at the party:
* NMC's Seriously Engaging An Overview of SL and the New Media Consortium
* Calisto Meets His Maker (created by GCC's own ... more » »

Here's a relatively early heads up for the next NMC Campus Teacher's Buzz session, a discussion session led my Aurili Oh, (aka Suzanne Aurilio) of San Diego State University. The topic is PLORK: Adults at play and work: A Collective Reflection.
I had to do a bit of deeper than one click googling to get at the concept of Plork - not the PLOrk Princeton Laptop Orchestra (that that sounds interesting). And on the Urban Dictionary, I was fairly sure it ... more » »

On Tue Sep 4, Hackshaven Harford gave a great tour of some of the new features of the NOAA sims in Second Life. Starting from the original Meteora sim, and after a brief intro to Hackshaven's NOAA and Maya Realities work we were treated to a tour of some the new exhibits and a great demo of the Maya Realities avatar heat map. We watched as large translucent, colored boxes (none of your wood variety here!) appeared. Different colors representing ... more » »
