NOAA Hurricane

Soar through a hurricane on the wing of a research aircraft, rise gently through the atmosphere atop a weather balloon, or search for a hidden underwater cave on a side trip from a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA http://www.noaa.gov/) submersible. These and other virtual adventures are attracting large numbers of visitors to one of the first government-sponsored, Earth-science virtual “islands.”

Hackshaven Harford

Hackshaven Harford the project manager for NOAA’s virtual operations worked in conjunction with Aimee Weber Studios to create the sims being toured as part of this NMC Teacher’s Buzz. Hackshaven will discuss NOAA’s current and future plans with regards to Second Life including the upcoming expansion to their ocean exhibit as well as a 9 sim expansion to NOAA’s virtual weather map called “Second Earth.” In addition, Hackshaven Harford recently started a company called Maya Realities (http://www.mayarealities.com/) focusing on Second Life metrics and analytics. An overview of the company will be presented and free traffic analysis tools will be given to attendees!!

As always, please remember that session transcripts are recorded and put onto the NMC Campus wiki at http://sl.nmc.org/wiki/Teachers_Buzz_Session along with the archives of all previous NMC Teachers Buzz sessions.

See you on Meteroa on Tue 4 Sep at 9am SLT/PDT!
