Symposium on Creativity in SL Closes… and is Opened
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 18, 2007 06:53pm
After an unbelievable 8 day stretch of events, the NMC Symposium on Creativity in Second Life ended today following a morning and afternoon of more sessions on scripting, improvisation techniques, avatars… We had great closing panel session on “Creativity and Education in SL” (despite our challenges with audio, the show went on).
Ths Symposium closed with remarks by Larry Pixel (aka Larry Johnson) highlighting the profound experience we all had this week, especially because of the creative spirit of not just our presenters, but also a credit to our participants. See below for the audio recording of these remarks…
There are many images, impressions to sum it all up, and we leave with this one of the wonder those of us were enveloped with at the Friday evening performances by DanCoyote’s ZeroG Skydancers:

We have a few days backlog of other summaries, audio, images to share, but this dog needs some rest. Look for more to be published net week.
So the Symposium ended for the 150+ registered participants, but now we open it all up again for our educational community. The NMC Conference Center sim is now open to everyone in our NMC groups, and you will find there all of the event resources in the Grace Hopper Expo Center, the freebies at the store in Farnsworth Station, the interactive art to explore, the collection of Torley Linden tutorials in our Video Circle…

You can get to this by opening your map, and searching for the region NMC Conference Center or via the SLURL:

If you are not part of the NMC Community, you can learn how to join our groups.
And make a landmark for this region, as it will be a site you can use next week to participate in the in world sessions of the Education Track at the Second Life Community Convention.
And yes, to close the closing of the conference, there was music, and indeed, a bit of spontaneous dancing as part of our celebration.
As Larry notes in the remarks, we at NMC have learned so much from what potential remains to be unveiled in this virtual world, and we plan to continue to explore, share, and be in wonder about what creative people do here. We ask that you keep us informed about the work you do.
Goodnight!

A sincere thank-you to the organisers and participants for letting those of us unable to attend experience a little of the symposium’s magic.
