Good On Ya, Aussie Educators

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 7, 2007 03:58pm

For our NMC Campus Teachers Buzz Session, we had an exceptional visit Monday, to Wasp, the home of Australian SL Educators jokay Wollongong and Sean McDunnough, who shared the broad array of resources they ave developed for Australia teachers.

As one participant remarked, they have developed a very visual pleasing and information common look and feel to their materials. And even more so, they have covered their bases in terms of providing acccess to them- in world at Wasp (74,31,86), but also all of it online at their Second Life in Education wiki - and providing them in video format (YouTube), presentation (Slideshare), and even comic form — see the variety at http://sleducation.wikispaces.com/ourresources.

Their sim features a stunning wall of connections to their selections of great educational destinations in Second Life (plus a longer list online):

Sean demos the collection of educational destinations.

We got a look at their uses of RSS, their auditorium for larger events, and heard about the wide range of activities they are involved with, such as a New South Wales Learnscope professional development project focussed on developing skills in elearning and flexible delivery in vocational education. They are helping Enmore Design Center develop a project around interior design in SL, and are also assisting in projects with disabilities teachers and librarians exploring uses of SL.

The highlight may have been, however, the tour of their Virtual Hairdressing Salon:

which is part of a project with the TAFENSW Hairdressing program to be used for student role-play aimed at achieving workplace communications learning outcomes.

Our big thanks go to jokay and Sean for giving us a tour, especially given we ended at 1:00 Am for their local time!
