Soar through a hurricane on the wing of a research aircraft, rise gently through the atmosphere atop a weather balloon, or search for a hidden underwater cave on a side trip from a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA http://www.noaa.gov/) submersible. It's been more than a week since the end of the NMC Symposium on Creativity on Second Life, yet we continue to find thing to share! As noted, from the Friday highlights, we ended that day with 3 performances of DanCoyote Antonelli's ZeroG SkyDancers, one of the most unique and demonstratively creative art forms in Second Life (learn more about DC's concepts of hyperformalism...)
During the show, like many of you, I was taking lots of snapshots (see 1000+ flickr photos ... more » »

I'm here in Chicago, after SLCC 2007 ended, waiting at O'Hare to get home.... and struggling to find the correct balance of words to try and describe the experience here. To be blunt, the highlight of SLCC was the opportunity to have that magical meeting in RL of people you have gotten to know in SL- it happened so many times I lost count. But... going from our "normal" SL experiences of being able to go anywhere, to fly, to instantly ... more » »

As the closing keynote for the Education Track at SLCC 2007, NMC CEO Larry Johnson presented an expanded version of his talk at the NMC Symposium on Creativity with his self-admitted optimistic view of "What Creativity Matters".
Via reports from in-world respondents, the audio stream was working (whew!), but we did manage to grab a recording -- see below (note that the house audio volume was very low). Thanks to our SL colleagues who shared the chat transcript from the folks ... more » »

Sarah Robbins, ever effervescent Intellagirl, revved up the energy at SLCC 207 with her session on a A Futurist’s View of Second Life Education. She presenter her own matrix framework for looking at the attributes of virtual worlds and plotted were we are at... and encouraged educators to help drive where it will go.
Sadly, with hotel internet connectivity issues plaguing the conference, the live audio stream into Second Life did not make it. We understood that as pluck in world ... more » »

Just in time for this weekend's Second Life Community Convention, the proceedings (papers) for the sessions in the Education Track have just been made available. Kudos to Jeremy Kemp and Daniel Livingstone for what must have been some monumental editing.
Weighing in at 188 pages, this is one perhaps to read electronically, or at least, save a real tree and print a few select articles. Choosing "select" may be the hard part!
As noted in the introduction:
If by any chance you’ve seen ... more » »
