Graduation Ceremony Beamed to NMC Campus
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Jun 20, 2007 09:59am
Back on the weekend of June 9-10, 2007, NMC Campus was ringing with the sounds of “Pomp and Circumstance” as for the first time ever (we believe) a college graduation ceremony was made available by live video into Second Life. At the request of our colleagues at Cal Poly Pomona, and with support of their a/v crew that provided live video streams, all of the commencement ceremonies were made available to view on Teaching 2 on NMC Campus.

To much applause, President J. Michael Ortiz referenced the Second Life live stream at the beginning of his welcome speech at the ceremonies:
Continuing in our rich tradition of educational and innovative leadership, I am pleased to announce that the entire 2007 Cal Poly Pomona commencement ceremony will be simultaneously lived streamed in Second Life, a sophisticated, 7-million resident virtual world that is now being used for immersive learning experiences by faculty and students world-wide. This event is the very first of its kind for the entire California University System.

And of course, congratulations to the graduates!
Our thanks to AlanaClaire DeCuir (aka Dr. Teshia Roby) for coordinating and bringing this event to NMC Campus.
More pictures are available (768k PDF).
