We have another special event coming to NMC Campus to share with our adoring readers (well, we imagine you are adoring!).
On July 7 and repeated on July 8, some graduate students from the Pepperdine University Online Masters of Educational Technology (OMET) program are convening an audience to talk in Second Life how to give education itself a second life (in the broader terms).
So they are asking us to ask all you to show up at NMC Campus on Teaching ... more » »

A few weeks ago we shared about a nifty new web video concept where uploaded video is set up so speakers of other languages can add localized captions. We are still impressed with the very 2.0ish idea that dotsub offers -- user generated video captions.
In our example, the folks at dotsub seeded our NMC Campus Seriously Engaging video with English captions from the original video (they did this in a very quick time frame, FYI). Just checking in today, ... more » »

Sometimes at our NMC Campus Teachers Buzz meetings we talk a lot about teaching and learning in Second Life-- it was a nice change to actually be part of the action last Monday night.
We owe a big thanks to Desideria Stockton and her DeSales University students who on Monday night allowed our NMC Teachers Buzz group to take part in a class activity over at the Women of Brewster Place classroom. Plus another thanks to Eloise Pasteur, builder and scripter ... more » »

This dog was up late last night to participate in a live event from Australia, Showcasing Australasian Educational Projects in Second Life. Hosts and planners Jo Kay (aka jokay Wollongong) and Sean FitzGerald (aka Sean McDunnough) set this up to highlight some Australasian educational projects currently being using Second Life.
While not technically being part of this region, from our great collaborations with our colleagues there, and as a prelude to a RL visit I am doing in October, I was ... more » »

The July/August issue of Technology Review features a comprehensive story on Second Earth, where it not only highlights many compelling regions in Second Life, but looks more broadly at the future, which may in fact combine the data and rich media of Google Earth with the high level engagement of Second Life.
The World Wide Web will soon be absorbed into the World Wide Sim: an environment combining elements of Second Life and Google Earth.
The article by Wade Roush is ... more » »

Back on the weekend of June 9-10, 2007, NMC Campus was ringing with the sounds of "Pomp and Circumstance" as for the first time ever (we believe) a college graduation ceremony was made available by live video into Second Life. At the request of our colleagues at Cal Poly Pomona, and with support of their a/v crew that provided live video streams, all of the commencement ceremonies were made available to view on Teaching 2 on NMC Campus.
To much ... more » »
