Educators in Second Life Survey

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : May 2, 2007 05:23pm

The NMC is interested in learning more about the ever growing number of educators who are using or exploring Second Life. To conduct some research, we have just launched a 42 item, anonymous online survey aimed at educators (faculty, staff, student, administrator) who have an active Second Life account. Our questions aim to get an understanding of their SL preferences, behaviors in Second Life, their current or future planned educational activities, and some demographics/technology use of this group.

The survey is open now through May 25, and once the results are compiled, we will provide them here, for free, on the NMC Campus Observer. It may take you from 15-30 minutes to complete. No personal information will be collected or used in this survey. If you are willing and interested to participate, please go to the survey at:

So far, in less than 24 hours of announcing the survey, we have 95 completed responses (Thanks to the early birds!). We know the folks at Linden Lab are looking forward to seeing what

We appreciate the generous cooperation of the educational community we have met and connected with this year in Second Life, and hope, like in previous times we have asked for help, that many will step up and contribute.

Please feel free to forward this message to your colleagues and/or students. Despite the photo above, the survey will not bite!

I am just finishing up a white paper on SL. The purpose of the paper is to provide a recommendation to educators on whether SL is a viable option for the University to explore. I would be very interested in including a summary of your survey results in my paper. Have you compiled them yet? Could you send me a brief summary? (My paper is due next week - at the end of my summer course) Thanks for any assistance you can provide.
