Special Teacher’s Buzz Session- Give an Educator New to SL an Helping Hand
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Apr 1, 2007 09:59pm
We’re nudging the next NMC Teacher’s Buzz session one day later this week- we will meet at 6:00 PM PDT on Tuesday (not Monday - check your local time) this week only. Why? Well, we are going to welcome a group of educators who are likely entering Second Life for the first time– these are participants in a pre-conference workshop for the TCC Online Conference.
As a discussion topic, we thought it would be helpful for those who have been participating in this year’s Teacher’s Buzz meetings, people with some to a lot of experience in using Second Life, to share some advice, tips, suggestions for educators just shaking out their new avatars. So far, at least a few people have volunteered to speak up, including:
- Ellie Brewster (aka Sharon Collingwood) has taught Oregon State’s first class in SL, a course on Women’s Studies
- Desideria Stockton (aka Beth Ritter-Guth) who teaches English using SL at Lehigh County Community College (maybe, if she gets her computer fixed!
So if you have time and interest, join our discussion session. We will meet this week at yet another new location, at the amphitheater on NMC’s new sim “Teaching” — this is one of the three new sims the NMC has just announced as being available for rental. This location is in the “Quad” area of this sim, a shared space that has also classrooms, an art gallery, and a local branch of the ICT resources.
