Interview with Stormy Roentgen

Stormy is currently exhibiting on The Island of Service. I caught up with her and asked her about her arts journey is SL - this is what she had to say
1. How did you start your journey creating art in SL?
I’ve had an interest in creating art for many years, but I never was satisfied with my results in any of the mediums I’ve tried in the past. I coincidentally became very close with a fellow artist in SL who encouraged me to try making a human figure. I gave it a try, and that figure ended up being my first sculpture, Dancing with Dolphins. From that point on, I was hooked.
2. Who inspires you creatively ?
I am inspired by many artists. Anytime I am touched by a beautiful piece of art in SL, it seems I take a little bit of it with me. However, I’d have to say I am most inspired by Starax Statosky. He taught me much of what I know about sculpting in SL, and many of my sculptures were literally products of emotions he invoked as well. His work makes me want to think outside of the box, though I am doubtful I’ll ever master this in the ways he has.

3. How did you hear about the NMC Campus Arts community ?
I heard about NMC through a friend of mine, Tayzia Abattoir.
4. Who are your favourite SL Artist(s) and why ?
Starax Statosky, for reasons I’ve mentioned. Cheen Pitney is another one of my favourites. Cheen is quite new to SL, and is very much a natural talent. He does a lot of custom, and he makes creating anything you ask for look so much easier than it really is. Then there’s Stella Costello, another artist who obviously loves thinking outside of the box. Stella is very imaginative and creates beautiful pieces.
5. How would you like to see the Arts develop in SL is anything missing ?
I am not sure I know what you mean by this question, but I’ve never felt anything is missing. I create art in SL as a personal outlet, and I feel I have everything I need for that (besides maybe some better game performance! *glances in Phillip’s direction
