Join Us in World For EDUCAUSE/ELI Presentation

On Monday January 22, at 12:00 PM PST, a few of us from NMC Campus (myself, Larry Pixel, and Heidi Teecee) will be doing a RL presentation at the EDUCAUSE/ELI conference in Atlanta. We’re aiming to start with a demo of Second Life, and are looking for some people willing to show up in world, perhaps wave hello, say/chat a few things, and ideally, be a sort of back channel for the session.

The blurb for the presentation is:

The Next Generation of Digital Learning Spaces: Exploring the frontier of Virtual Worlds
Virtual worlds afford many possibilities for both students and faculty to enhance the learning experience. With these affordances come challenges that need to be addressed for successful implementation into the curriculum. This presentation will provide case studies and examples of educational opportunities available in virtual worlds, specifically focused on the Second Life environment, to address issues related to (1) training and support, (2) curriculum integration, and (3) emerging best practices.

So put on your favorite avatar duds, and meet us over at one of the new areas of NMC Campus– we will meet at an outdoor theater at Learning (165,175,26)- go there via a SLURL. Again, that is 12:00 PM (PST) on January 22.

Arrive a few minutes early, grab a seat, etc. We may try streaming the audio from the conference into the SL music channel, but no promises.

The presentation will start with the Second Life demo, so we are hoping to have a group in world to interact with the RL people sitting in the room of our session. Following this, we’ll move into presentation/discussion mode at the conference, but will try and have someone online who can be a bridge between RL and SL participants.

It should prove interesting (and thankfully is not on a Wednesday!)
