We've just gotten word from NMC Member University of Michigan's 3D Lab of a new development using the open sourced Second Life client. They have connected a modified version of the client to the platform developed under the GeoWall project -- off the shelf hardware that powers a set of paired computer projectors to create stereoscopic views.
So you might strap on a pair of 3D movie glasses and see how the world of Second Life looks as 3D projection!

While NMC Campus has been and continues to roll out its expansion plans, we are not going quite as far as the photo suggests in a recent Boing Boing post reporting that Sweden is the first country to be building an embassy in Second Life.

We are lining up even more art events that will be at NMC Campus in the next few months.
In addition to the February NMConnect art extravaganza, we are working on a Machinima Film festival for March.
And just added to the calendar, we have scheduled for April 26-28, 2007 is "Borders, Boundaries & Liminal States" an Ars Virtua conference.

Today Bryan Mnemonic (aka Assoc. Prof. Bryan Carter) from the University of Central Missouri and Ali Andrews (aka Aline Click) of Northern Illinois University (NIU) told a group of SL teachers of their work with students in SL, and took us on a tour of some of the assignments and projects produces by learners in their composition classes in Second Life. We had a great audience, both in Atlanta and NMC Campus in Second Life for today's presentation on The Next Generation of Digital Learning Spaces: Exploring the frontier of Virtual Worlds at the EDUCAUSE ELI Conference. Thanks to all who showed up in real world, and kept a good back channel flowing. We kept the Second Life client on the projection screen the whole time- there was zero powerpointing.

Attention Second Life art creators! We have a call for artists interested in presenting/displaying their work February 11-13 for the NMConnect event. How much will the Second Life experience change when we can easily talk by audio rather than typing in chat? There is new tinkering on the edges with the release today of SecondTalk, an inworld device that allows you to find and speak to other avatars via Skype.
