Today was a multi location event where Henry Jenkins was visiting the Teen Grid for the Global Kids A World Fit For Children Festival. Wow was my computer screen busy with all the things we needed behind the scenes to make this work. We had Henry and Barry Joseph on a teleconference line, with the audio going into my laptop and streaming back out to second life via our streaming server. There was audio coming in from a stream provided ... more » »

As part of our NMC Campus public service, we hope to start writing some more tips and things useful to SL users. If you'd like to help out as a writer for the Observer, contact me, or you can add them directly to our Campus Guide Tips and Tricks (a wiki).
In one of the Second Life client updates a few weeks back, they added an option to your preferences to help you have some flexibility where you land when you ... more » »

There is no Buzz session next week, but we pick up with more sessions in 2007. We are looking to build out our schedule, so please let us know your ideas, suggestions for places to tour... offers to lead a session (?). These need not be fancy productions-- the main purpose of the Buzz Sessions are to provide a time and place for conversations about teaching in Second Life.
For the next NMC Campus Teacher's Buzz meeting, we continue our ... more » »

This has ties to the work of the MacArthur Foundation's Digital Learning project, of which NMC, Global Kids, and Henry Jenkins have been participants. Monday's Buzz field trip was excellent. Some 37 people gathered on the Casablanca sim to learn about the Virtual Morocco project of the Johnson & Wales University, in collaboration with the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism.
We were shown a number of builds including a souk, a mosque, a garden, a cafe and a lovely beach. This project began last Spring with Ann Enigma and her colleague Desty Kenzo. The students went to Morocco on a study trip. The purpose ... more » »
