Photo Contest Winners Announced

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Oct 20, 2006 10:25pm

At 11:15 AM today, we announced the winners of the Impact of Digital Media Photo Contest.

This contest was initially for images that best represented the themes of this Symposium from either SL or RL. Originally we had categories for these…. but many of them blurred the boundaries. So we decided to give awards to the top 5.

So the winning photos are…

Tied for 3rd place: Winning L$1000

“Class at a Museum” by Carl Oxberger. Photo from Melborne Museum, Australia.

“Some linger, some pause and others just pass-by. This photo on identity, encourages us to understand how learners differ, looking at art in a museum. While each of us don’t always linger, it’s part of our identity to consider the profile of what we linger, pause, or pass-by for all the media in our lives. Catching students in a museum using a slow shutter can allow us to have insight, assess and ponder how we might teach…. or are we just passers-by in teaching?”

1st Place: Winning L$5000

“Reclining” by Micala Lumiere.

“Reclining was taken on my patio in my sim of Mill Pond. I loved the black and white image and the relaxing quality of this piece.”

Thanks to all who participated in the contest– it is a stunning set of images. Look soon for the winning photos to be on display at campus.
