NMC Announces Phase Two Expansion of NMC Campus

Infinite Vision Media hired as Primary Contractor

The New Media Consortium today announced the expansion of the NMC Campus from a single “sim“ to seven sims, the virtual equivalent of growing from 16 acres to 112 acres of space. Included in the expansion plans are a film/machinima/theater complex and a life sciences/medical complex.

This project represents a significant ramping up of the commitment by the NMC to explore and support learning, knowledge generation, and knowledge sharing in the virtual world of Second Life. Infinite Vision Media, creators of some of the most visited, well-received, and immersive builds in Second Life is uniquely positioned to lead the development of this important project.

A public RFP was issued in September to select a contractor to lead the expansion effort, and in an open process in which more than a dozen Second Life contractors responded, Infinite Vision Media, Inc. was selected as the prime contractor.

We believe that this expansion represents an exciting opportunity for NMC, an organization which has already delved deeply into the infinite possibilities of research and education in the Second Life platform.
