Teacher’s Buzz On Math and Art

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Oct 3, 2006 12:41pm

It was another great turnout for this week’s NMC Campus Teacher’s Buzz Session. On Monday, we welcomed guest Seifert Surface, the creator of the math generated sculptures which fill the rooftop NMC Campus Welcome Center as well as the Perez Green Plaza. He spoke to the group via streaming audio that was available in the SL music channel (see below for a recording of the session).

Seifert Surface speaks to the October 2, 2006 Teacher’s Buzz Session

Seifert has recently added some new pieces to the rooftop NMC Welcome area, along with some notecards that explains ther math principles of knots, ruled surfaces, fractals, and Serpinksi Triangles. The audio link below captures most of his session (we missed the first few moments). Or see some of the photos from this session.

Seifert is most anxious for feedback on the notecards created for these pieces- is the content useful? understandable? Could a math teacher build some lessons around them?

Stay tuned for details on the next Buzz Session on October 16, 2006, at 6:00 PM SLT/PST.

[...] Monday was a very busy day in Second Life for educators - in the morning the NMC Teachers Buzz session featured scultures based on mathematical equations.  I got the rare opportunity to talk about this visit with two math faculty today as we plan to really investigate the SL environment for teaching and learning (more to come).  But the real treat for me was the talk given by Dr. Bransford on his work with LIFE.  I have already blogged about it on the NMC Campus Observer - so be sure to visit my post there.  Bookmark to:          [...]
