Automatic SL Resource Publishing
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Sep 27, 2006 09:02am
The resource links posted recently is part of a new automatic publishing feature for the NMC Campus Observer. We have been using a special del.icio.us account to bookmark and tag relevent or interesting (not always the same!) web resources listed above as “links”.
A web browser bookmark tool makes it a quick and easy process, but we’ve just enabled the del.icio.us feature that will publish each day, any new links added. Fresh links! We are hoping to turn the keys to this over to some of our new library colleagues.
While we are at it, here is a summary of the main NMC Campus Observer navigation tools:

- Home - Obviously, takes you to the main front page of the Observer
- About - the general overview of NMC Campus
- Join - Many people believe the NMC Campus in Second Life is completely private; but that is not so. This web form asks you for your name, affiliation, and avatar, and then emails you the instructions for self-enrolling in the NMC group that allows access to our campus. You then have complete access to everything there. Information on the form is used to populate our directory and our email notification list (both offer options to opt out).
- Directory - A search tool to find a contact within the NMC Campus community; search by name, avatar, or affiliation (we do not publish emails). Or see the most recenty people that have joined.
- Calendar - Our events calendar, powered by Google.
- Links - The collection of web resources described above, tagged via del.icio.us to our special account. This Observer page lists the 30 most rencet added as well as a tag cloud. The full collection can be searched by keyword. And if you want to send a link our way, just tag it as for:nmc_campus.
- Guide - Our NMC Campus Guide, a wiki based collection of additional resources published by us and our community. Look for educator resourse, howtos, and the ideas that are brewing in the brainstorming phase. You can help write!
- Go - The quickest way to get to NMC Campus; this Second Life URL (slurl) presentes a web page teleporter, that will launch the application if not open, and send you to NMC Campus.
