Talking With the Professor
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Aug 8, 2006 11:22am
It’s been a while since we posted a Studio NMC podcast interview, so recently we tracked down Professor Beliveau, who in RL is Ed Lamoureaux from Bradley University. Professor is currently working on a 3 week multimedia course on research methods that he will conduct entirely in Second Life in January 2007. He is also writing up his progress on this venture here on the NMC Campus Observer; see Preparing to teach ethnography of communication to undergraduates in SL, Part One and Part Two.

We chatted and strolled with the Professor the week before the Artists on the Green event on NMC Campus
In this Studio NMC interview, the Professor talks about his explorations into Second Life (including how he is trying to make it without any initial funds in his account!), and his plans and ideas for his upcoming class. See below the link to access the audio for this interview– note we had a few audio dropouts during our conversation (we were using iChat audio on my old back up computer which hiccupped a bit during the middle sections).

And learn a bit more about Professor, and some of his ideas about identity and appearance in Second Life. And stay tuned to his columns here as he shares his experiences in developing a class that will take place entirely in Second Life.

Bradley University’s Ed Lamoureux and his online counterpart, Professor Beliveau, will soon be teaching an entire course in Second Life. Entitled “Field Research in Second Life” (Multimedia 490, MM 490), up to eight students will spend three weeks examining life from within the MMO.

[...]Virtual classroom to start at Bradley University - Imagine taking a college course that had a teacher, students and a classroom, but all of it is in cyberspace. That’s exactly how one Bradley professor plans to teach. [...]

I would love the virtual classrooms….then again I hate participating in classes.
