Poster Crash
CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Jul 12, 2006 05:25pm
This reporter was right on the scenes today as Second Life crashed horribly right at the time we expected to start our NMC Campus Poster Session. The Campus staff were already concerned when we found out earlier this week that Linden labs was shutting down Second Life from 8:00am-12:00pm (SLT/PST) for an upgrade, leaving not much of a windows for those we had invited to be on campus early before the 1:30 PM start of events.
A number of Avatars, myself included, were there early, as soon as we were able to download the new updated. I was on campus around 12:15 PM, saw 6-8 other avs walking about. However, as we got closer to the start time, not many more people were getting in. And I was getting IMs from outside, that my colleague Ninmah Ash was booted and could not log in.
Apparently something bad crashed our session.

It was surreal for those still inside NMC Campus, as we could move around and function fine, but no one could log in. Messages posted on the Second Life forums indicated there were large scale patterns:
Login issues following the 1.10.6 release Wednesday, July 12, 2006 12:57:13 We're investigating some issues with the system following opening up the grid after the 1.10.6 release. We have disabled logins temporarily while we investigate the problem.
The door was locked, yet we were still free to roam inside! How weird!
So thanks to all who tried to enter the crash scene, and to Shelby, Timothy, and Iconolith for sticking around to chat, Stay tuned as we plan for a reprise of the session for 1:30PM SLT (PST) tomorrow, Thursday.
You can just never know what might happen here.
