Our Movie “NMC Campus: Seriously Engaging”

CDB Barkley (aka Alan Levine) : Jun 12, 2006 08:24pm

During the Friday night live session from the NMC Summer Conference in and into the NMC Campus, our guests from Electric Sheep Company opened with a newly produced fine minute video NMC Campus: Seriously Engaging. This piece nicely provides an overview of Second Life, how people are building a new way of real work and interaction there, and concluding with an overview of the NMC Campus.

It has a lovely narration and impressive visuals, don’t you agree? This will be a big part of our promotional campus materials.

The movie is available here in Flash 8 format and you may select a few other video flavors below:

[...] I was pleased when a new entry popped up in my RSS reader from the NMC Campus Observer tonight. The entry , The Second Life / NMC Movie, links to a machinima The Electric Sheep Company produced for the NMC Summer Conference. The video is a great introduction to Second Life and describes what the New Media Consotium is doing there. I hope people find it to be a helpful tool in introducing Second Life to friends, family, and potential business interests. [...]

I somewhat randomly came across this video. It’s a great explanation of the work of NMC and about SL in general. Pretty impressive for a short video.

    Kudos to the creators!

    New Media Consortium’s SL Video

Finally had a chance to check out the video that was produced for the New Media Consoritum, showcasing their campus in Second Life. (Both campus and video were created by the Electric Sheep Company, 3pointD’s only sponsor at the moment.) The vide…

This was just announced on the SL Educators mailing list, and I thought I should watch the movie. It is most spectacularly done. I wonder if I can have NMC’s permission to “show off” this movie around my country (Portugal) in order to demonstrate what a virtual campus could look like, and what types of uses NMC is currently giving to it.

Thank you all for doing this amazing piece of work!

OMG!!! Who in the freakin’ metaverse did the narration voiceover? SOOOO pleasant, better than watching those airline flight demos when you get aboard a plane. I looked in the credits and didn’t see a name. Several quick points:

    * VERY nice to have FL+SL names both listed at the end credits. It’s like, stunt doubles, but better!

    * The pans and zooms were exquisite, like zooming into the miniature and the shot with the eagle. I also like the one where it scrolls down and the two ladies are dippin’ their feet in the water.

I like how it was presented just like a “real” (e.g., brick-and-mortar) campus would be. It gave your work the respect it deserves!

[...] So if you don’t know anything about Second Life but are curious, have a look at the NMC video which presents their vision for education in Second Life. It’s a damn fine piece of machinima with a killer voice-over but when you watch it, keep in mind that every animated character you see in it is a real person. [...]

I love the 3D Virtual view and it creates a curiousity of wanting to know about Second Life. It looks so realistic with the animation.

Yes, it definitely has a lovely narration and impressive visuals.
